Hostellerie La Croix Blanche
Why We Love This Hotel
- The 300-year-old hotel is in the popular Loire Valley -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- The Loire River and Château de Montsoreau -- a Renaissance-style castle -- are less than 10 minutes' drive away
- This deal also includes a tour and tasting at Ackerman winery and Combier distillery, both 15 minutes' drive from the hotel (once per stay; transport not included)
Royalty and nobility have flocked to this part of central France for centuries. If it's "French splendour, style and gastronomy you seek, the Loire Valley will exceed your expectations", says Lonely Planet. With castles, vineyards and scenic views aplenty, the valley has become one of the most visited destinations in France and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hostellerie La Croix Blanche is opposite 12th-century Abbaye de Fontevraud -- a former monastery and later a Napoleonic prison -- which now holds concerts and exhibitions. Château de Montsoreau, a Renaissance-style castle that is now a contemporary art museum (entry fees apply), is less than 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and is a great spot for soaking up views of the River Loire.
Expect exposed ceiling beams and tufa walls at this 17th-century former coaching inn, which is a typical design of the region. You can relax by the log fire in the lounge or enjoy contemporary and classic French fare in Le Plantagenêt restaurant.
Rooms have views of the town, the courtyard or Abbaye de Fontevraud. Wi-Fi is free.
