Located less than 200 yards from Eastbourne's Grand Parade Beach, the BEST WESTERN Lansdowne Hotel is two miles from Beachy Head's chalk cliffs and less than a 10-minute walk from the Congress Theatre, Devonshire Park Theatre, the Winter Garden and Eastbourne Pier.

"Enjoying an enviable position at the quieter end of the parade, this hotel overlooks the Western Lawns and Wish Tower, and is just a few minutes' walk from many of the town's attractions," says The AA.

If you're keen for a day trip, Brighton is a 45-minute drive and Tunbridge Wells is 50 minutes by car. There is a wealth of picturesque villages in the surrounding areas, or you can explore the numerous gardens, vineyards and historic homes of Sussex and the neighbouring county of Kent.

The hotel has been run by the same family since 1912. Facilities include the Devonshire Restaurant, serving British classics, the Regency Bar for a pre- or post-dinner drink, and a selection of sea-facing lounges with original Victorian features.

Bedrooms are "attractively decorated", according to The AA, and offer free Wi-Fi, and many have sea views. Children under five years old can stay for free on a bed-and-breakfast basis when sharing a room. Select rooms are dog-friendly, and are an extra £10 per night.

Enjoyed Most: The view from our room,248, was fantastic. The room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated.
Other Comments: Extra staff are needed at breakfast as we waited some time to be served with tea and coffee.

Enjoyed Most: The dinner on our first night. In general, the meal size was good - no overloaded plates, apart from some of the desserts.
Other Comments: We were a little disappointed with the room this time. on our first stay in March, we were given a large room with a sea view. This time, the room faced the back, and was slightly poky. Also it took the staff over 2 hours to respond to a request for lighter bed covers.

Other Comments: Great location and a lovely room, thank you!

Enjoyed Most: Sea front position, easy to walk to town, pier, etc. Food was good. Friendly, helpful staff, very welcoming.
Other Comments: Service was a bit on the slow side in the restaurant and had to ask for things a couple of times. Double bed was on the small side so didn't sleep very well either night, added to which the room was hot and the window only opened a little way.

Enjoyed Most: A nice hotel in a good, seafront location. Very friendly, efficient staff.
Other Comments: Excellent restaurant where we had our evening meal. Restaurant staff warm and welcoming. We should have booked a sea view room but didn't, meaning we were at the back of the hotel, overlooking the ventilation outlets - not the best, but for what we paid, all pretty good.

Enjoyed Most: The location on the seafront and the style of the hotel.
Other Comments: I had a single room with a view. Because it was sunny and the hotel has massive windows at the front my room was roasting. They do have fans you can ask to borrow. Wish I ha d but as I arrived quite late I thought they'd all be in use.

Enjoyed Most: Nice view, nice refurbished rooms. Pleasant staff.
Other Comments: However, the stay was spoiled due to the fact that my adult children had a not so nice experience.
