Overview

This 12th-century coaching inn is in the village of Westleton, within the Yox Valley. Inside it's relaxed, with cosy enclaves, where you can read one of the hotel's books, or study the huge map on the wall to plan your next walk. Expect wood burners, beamed ceilings, exposed brickwork and rustic furniture.

You can dine in the 2-AA-Rosette restaurant or in the traditional front bar. The kitchen uses produce from local butchers and fishermen, and the chefs bake fresh bread every day.

Best rooms have a roll-top bath big enough for two people, a heated bathroom mirror and towel rails, duck-down duvets and free Wi-Fi. Dogs are welcome at a £7.50 nightly charge, and are given biscuits and a blanket on arrival.

The 2.7-mile walk from The Westleton Crown to The Ship at Dunwich takes you through Westleton Heath National Nature Reserve. Minsmere -- owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds -- is less than a 10-minute drive away, and you can cycle along the nature trails through woodland, or walk to see the coastal lagoons.

Southwold is within 20 minutes' drive, and has a bustling harbour, a lighthouse and the Southwold Sailor's Reading Room -- a small maritime museum. Aldeburgh -- also 20 minutes' drive from The Westleton Crown -- is famed for being the home of composer Benjamin Britten. Visit The Red House where he lived and worked or walk along the Blue Flag shingle beach to see the pastel coloured houses on the promenade.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, we had a lovely room and it was spotlessly clean, with a comfortable settee to relax in.

Good location to visit the coast,or to do some bird watching, retail therapy at Snape Maltings and the seaside town of Aldeburgh.

Lovely room. Dinner was very good eventually, once they had the order right.

Service at breakfast was shocking considering there was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time. Staff were too busy chatting, eventually we had to ask to get our order taken. Not impressed!

The hotel was in a nice village setting.

Our 'best' room was situated above the bar/kitchen so we were woken up every morning by taps being turned on at 6am. Also dinner on the Thursday night was a shambles as we had booked a table for 7.45pm, arrived at that time, was told to sit-in the lounge, we were still there 45 mins later and we had to speak to a member of staff who were not aware we were still waiting! Then had to wait another 30 mins for our meal.

Good room and welcome for dogs

In my view food is pricy for what it is. Staff should be empowered to offer better deals direct to customers when rooms available

The peace and quiet of the location in beautiful surroundings.
Other Comments
The room we were shown to initially did not appear to be a 'Best' as described or shown on the Travelzoo website or their own website. I called reception and they said that it was a 'Best' room but, given the discrepancy, they would be happy to upgrade us for free to one of their suites. After this, we had a lovely stay, however, it could have been very different if they hotel did not have the capacity to upgrade us. As far as I can see, there is definitely a problem with either the Travelzoo or Westleton Crown room description because the first room we were in was not as we were led to believe it would be.
