Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa
Why We Love This Hotel
- Historic hotel in central Sausalito overlooking San Francisco Bay
- A 20-minute drive to San Francisco -- while Napa and Sonoma are less than an hour away
- Spectacular bay views and chic décor
- While the hotel building itself is more than 120 years old, it has undergone multiple renovations in the last two decades
The 120-year-old Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa is a historic hideaway, overlooking San Francisco Bay, Richardson Bay and Angel Island. It sits in the heart of downtown Sausalito on a lively street lined with shops, restaurants and galleries. San Francisco is only a 20-minute drive south or a 30-minute ferry ride away, and Napa and Sonoma wine country are less than an hour's drive north.
Next to the hotel, the Michelin Guide-recommended Poggio Trattoria offers harbor views and a northern Italian menu. Try regional delicacies including squid ink pasta, Calabrian chili pork sausage, and a range of pizzas. Back at the hotel, a small fitness room and steam room are open to guests and the on-site spa (open 10 a.m.-6 p.m.) provides ocean-inspired treatments.
The contemporary rooms boast high ceilings, four-poster beds and french doors that open onto private balconies facing the bay or the courtyard. Larger hillside cottages -- separate from the main hotel building -- sit on the lush Sausalito slopes and have wood-burning fireplaces.
