Live in luxury at Royal Palms Resort and Spa, a Conde Nast Traveler 2013 Gold List hotel. You will be met with unparalleled service from the moment you enter the roundabout to park. Valets greet guests with bottled water and show them the way to the lobby -- which is housed in a stucco building with wooden columns and intricate tile.

Phoenix sees 300 days a year of sunshine, so chances are you can cool off in the pool during almost any visit. The Forbes 4-Star spa opens to a courtyard with plenty of comfy chairs while you wait to get a treatment. Specialty treatments include a lavender and aloe quench wrap and simply citrus manicure.

After a dip in the pool or a spa treatment, sip cocktails crafted from fresh ingredients at The Mix Up, the resort's new bar. T. Cook's is right next to the bar and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tempt your palate with culinary creations like lemon ricotta pancakes or tomato fennel risotto.

Estate rooms have a Southwestern flair with plantation shutters in the sleeping quarters that open to reveal the deep soaking tub in the bathroom. Valencia casitas look onto the resort's gardens or Camelback Mountain. All have a semi-private patio and many feature a gas-burning fireplace.

Guests are responsible for a $30 nightly resort fee that covers use of fitness centre and spa facilities, housekeeping, concierge and valet gratuities, property-wide Wi-Fi access, a 10% discount on retail products at Alvadora Boutique, welcome refreshments and more.

From the press:
  • "This gorgeous little hideaway has the feel of a Spanish villa and is so romantic and beautiful that the moment you set foot in the first cloistered garden, you might imagine that you hear flamenco music" -- Frommer's
  • "Scattered on the property’s 65 acres are 30 casitas and guest rooms carefully appointed with custom-made Mexican- and Spanish-inspired furnishings—four-poster beds, leather-covered coffee tables, tall armoires" -- Travel + Leisure

Enjoyed Most: The lovely grounds, pools and fountains
Other Comments: We went into T Cooks for breakfast Sunday. We were immediately given fresh coffee and water but then no-one ever came to take our order. We ended up having to leave without breakfast because we had an appointment at ten. Happens sometimes. Not a biggie. This is a beautiful hotel. They do hit you up for parking and I don't know about you, but "resort fees" always but me. I always feel like I'm being nickeled and died. Here is a wonderful classy hotel and you end up paying for use of of the amenities? I'd rather just pay more for the room upfront and not feel like I have to pay for the "gym" that I'm never going to use anyway.

Enjoyed Most: Service is impecable!!
Other Comments: It's a boutique hotel, so the pool is on the small side. But the service at the pool is awesome! The pool was very cold. T Cooks was fabulous!! Rooms are good size and nice!

Enjoyed Most: Spare ribs at T. Cooks were delicious! (We didn't enjoy the sauce on our lobster entree that the waiter recommended... We go out to eat at least 3 times every week and neither of us are very picky.) Mona the concierge was very pleasant and hospitable when offering ideas of things to do in the area The property itself was charming in appearance. It was nice to be able to print our boarding passes in the lobby.
Other Comments: Crib we requested was not in our room upon arrival (after calling to ask when booking, calling to ask en route to the hotel, and asking again at check-in). I asked when booking for a quieter room since we had a baby and we were placed directly next to the ice machine on our floor. There were not enough pool chairs (many guests), so my husband daughter and I had to share one. There were chairs in the reserved cabana, but we were not offered one by staff... Even though we both ordered food and drinks while we were out there. I had two drink vouchers from the travelzoo deal, and ordered a coke and a Pinot Grigio (my husband was in the room with our daughter) and the coke still ended up on our bill. We knew we would be paying the resort fee, but didn't realize that we would also be paying $19 for parking... So it ended up being $50 extra per day.
