The 5-star Sheraton Stockholm Hotel was named Sweden’s leading business hotel at the 2014 World Travel Awards, but don’t let that put you off if you're travelling for pleasure. Its central location overlooking Lake Mälaren makes it just as suitable for leisure travellers.
You'll be staying a short walk from Stockholm Central Station, next to City Hall and 10 minutes from the historic Gamla Stan district (just walk over the bridge). Also nearby are the Opera House, Royal Palace and the city’s National Museum. It's less than 15 minutes on the train to the Södermalm area, with its trendy shops, bars and restaurants.
The 360° Restaurant serves modern Swedish cuisine such as pickled rabbit drumsticks, charred radicchio and a red-wine jus, pam-fried filet of reindeer with a vanilla potato confit, and Swedish cheese, pear bread and quince marmalade. After dinner, move into the funky bar, where a DJ often plays, and try one of the 39 world cocktails. There is also a good range of local and international craft beer on offer.
The hotel has a nightly happy hour with complimentary wine, beer and snacks for those with access to the Club Lounge (those on the Starwood Preferred Guests programme or staying on the Club Level on the seventh floor).
The bedrooms are modern and spacious, with hardwood floors, crisp white linen, iPod docks and bathrobes and slippers. Upgrade to a Superior Room for views over the lake or the Old Town. A number also face the inner courtyard and are a better choice if you want to guarantee a quiet night.
