About the Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- This hotel is opposite St James' Park
- The Tyne Bridge, the Theatre Royal and the city's shopping district are within 20 minutes' walk
- This building was the former headquarters of Scottish & Newcastle Breweries
The Sandman Signature Newcastle Hotel is in the city centre -- opposite St James' Park and within 20 minutes' walk of the Tyne Bridge, the Theatre Royal and Grainger Town, the city's shopping district, which is full of listed Georgian and Victorian buildings.
Lonely Planet says, "against its dramatic backdrop of Victorian elegance and industrial grit" Newcastle "harbours a spirited mix of heritage and urban sophistication". The Sandman Signature Newcastle Hotel occupies the former headquarters of the Scottish & Newcastle Breweries, and the company's logo -- a blue star -- still shines from the top of the hotel.
The hotel is well located for exploring the city by night: Grey Street, Chinatown, Eldon Square and The Quayside are all within a 10 minutes' walk.
All rooms have walk-in rain shower, with the exception of Executive King Suites, which has a bath tub with a shower. Executive King Suites also has its own private balcony. The King Rooms have a small fridge and a microwave, while higher room categories have a fridge, a microwave, a hob, a kettle, a toaster, a sink and dishes. There is a shop next door where you can buy essentials. Wi-Fi is free and there's a small gym on the top floor.
The hotel's Shark Club Gastro Bar, which has 32 televisions, is open until 12am on Sunday nights, 1am on Monday-Thursday nights and 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. It's popular with guests and locals, and serves pub grub including burgers, chicken wings, steaks and curries.
We recommend that you ask for a room on a higher floor if you are concerned about noise (particularly on a match day).
