Map & Directions

It takes around 15 minutes to walk to Oxford railway station, or it's five minutes by taxi (expect to pay around £5). Heathrow Airport is around 45 miles away and Gatwick Airport is approximately 80 miles from the hotel. The Oxford Bus Company (The Airline service) runs regular buses from both airports to central Oxford. The bus from Heathrow costs around £23 one way and takes around 80 minutes, while from Gatwick, it's around £28 for the 2.5-hour journey. Tickets can be bought in advance online, or with cash on the day of travel. Parking at the hotel costs £28.50 per night (pre booking is essential).

The Macdonald Randolph Hotel is set in an imposing Victorian Gothic building on the corner of Magdalen and Beaumont Street in central Oxford. The hotel opened in 1866 and has seen its fair share of visiting celebrities and dignitaries. It's particularly well known for its connection to the television series "Inspector Morse" and its spin-off series "Lewis", scenes of which were filmed at the hotel. The wood-panelled Morse Bar, which will be recognisable to fans of the show, has even been named in honour of the Chief Inspector.

With its central location, the hotel is a good bet for those who want to explore the city on foot. It's opposite the Ashmolean Museum of Art & Archaeology, which houses diverse collections of artefacts and artworks spanning the centuries from 8000BC to the present day. The New Theatre is just a 3-minute walk from the hotel, and there are plenty of pubs and eateries nearby.

The hotel's own restaurant, the high-ceilinged Acanthus, offers fine dining and an a la carte menu of classic British dishes which use high-quality ingredients such as fine Scottish beef and British lamb. Afternoon tea at the Macdonald Randolph has been served at the hotel since it first opened, and is considered something of an Oxford institution. It is served in the elegant Drawing Room.

The hotel's spa offers a range of Elemis treatments and has a Jacuzzi, an ice fountain, steam rooms, saunas and a mini gym. There is a £15 per-guest charge to use the spa and the gym.

The classically decorated rooms feature all the facilities you would expect of a 5-star city-centre hotel. Executive rooms, are more spacious than the Classic rooms, and have extra features such as Nespresso coffee machines and seating areas. For special occasions, consider a Four-Poster room or a spacious suite.
