Looking for cutting-edge Italian culture, history or nightlife? You're in the wrong place. Travellers flock to Ravello on the Amalfi Coast for incredible views and clear blue seas, and the 4-star, cliff-edge Hotel Marmorata is the right place to experience both.
Ravello town is a 30-minute uphill walk from the hotel -- not for the faint-hearted. Make sure you visit Villa Rufolo's spectacular cascading gardens if you're holidaying between May and October, or catch a concert there during festival season (June to September). The hotel runs a shuttle service into pretty Amalfi, a few kilometres away, or you could take a day trip to the ruins of Pompeii, just over an hour away by car. Alternatively, hire a car, a scooter, a sailboat or a canoe to explore the coast from all angles.
The hotel's restaurant, L'Antica Cartiera serves traditional Italian food using fresh, local produce whenever possible. You can eat out on the terrace, which offers yet more of those amazing views. Other facilities include private access to the sea and a small fitness centre in the hotel.
Many of the rooms have wonderful sea views, and all have free Wi-Fi, a hairdryer and a minibar. Upgrade to a Superior Room for even better views and a Jacuzzi, or to a Junior Suite for a private balcony and a hot tub. The hotel welcomes families -- book a Kids' Room to ensure a change table and bottle warmer for young babies, children's TV channels and a laundry service (minimum 5-day stay).
