Overview
Built in 1619 by attorney Rees Jones, The Feathers Hotel was converted into an inn by 1670 and is one of the most well-known Grade I-listed buildings in Ludlow. The ornately half-timbered building features motifs of the Prince of Wales's feathers, from which the hotel gets its name.
Former Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom John Betjeman once described Ludlow as "probably the loveliest town in England". Once a site of frequent clashes between English and Welsh forces, Ludlow has a ruinous 12th-century castle and some of its medieval town walls still survive, as does Broadgate -- one of the seven medieval gates to the town. Head to Ludlow Museum and the castle to learn more about Ludlow's history -- both are less than five minutes walk from The Feathers.
Ludlow also has many fine Georgian buildings, and you can take in excellent views of the Welsh Marches from the top of the tower of St Laurence's Church, also five minutes' walk from the hotel.
The Feathers Hotel received a £2 million refurbishment in 2019, with the bedrooms reopening in December. The Feathers Tea Room provides a selection of freshly baked scones, cakes and savouries prepared using local ingredients, while the Plume@Feathers Restaurant serves more local and seasonal produce alongside their carefully curated wine list. Both the Tea Room and Restaurant have maintained plenty of traditional décor to admire, while being refreshed for the 21st century.
All 42 bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard. Classic rooms feature an ensuite bathroom, king-size bed and a lounge area.
