Overview

Exuding "Georgian charm and elegance" (The AA), The Eastbury is a red-brick boutique hotel, five minutes' walk from the town centre of Sherborne, Dorset's ancient capital. Sherborne is the perfect destination for a mini break, with medieval architecture, small winding streets and a storied past. The town also has an abbey that dates back to the eighth century and 12th-century castle ruins.

The property is in the heart of Dorset and is a great base from which to explore the area. Stourhead, "the most celebrated example of 18th-century English landscape gardening" (Frommer's), is a 30-minute drive from The Eastbury. The Jurassic Coast -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site with "sea-carved bays, crumbly cliffs and beaches loaded with fossilised souvenirs" (Lonely Planet) -- is an hour's drive from the hotel.

The Conservatory restaurant has two AA Rosettes and was the winner of the Taste of the West Gold Award 2015. Some of the produce used in the kitchen comes from the hotel's garden, vegetable patch and beehives. The restaurant serves a modern take on classic dishes. There is also a terrace for al fresco dining in fine weather.

Each room has its own character, with décor ranging from contemporary chic to traditional Georgian. Guests can choose from Single, Double, Superior and Luxury bedrooms. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Enjoyed Most: An excellent hotel choice and deal. In a gorgeous location. Friendly and very helpful staff. The most enjoyable aspect was the seven course tasting menu, which was superb. A delightful stay and we will return certainly return.

Enjoyed Most: The food was delicious.
Other Comments: The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Soon after arrival, we requested a change of room if possible because of road noise and were offered another room without a fuss. Although we had no view and both rooms were a little tired in decor, the second room was pleasant and quiet and we slept well.
