Overview

Built in 1891, Najeti Hôtel Château Tilques is a Neoclassical castle in northern France, a 40-minute drive from Calais's ferry and Eurotunnel connections to the UK. The picturesque grounds, which are dotted with modern sculptures, have a lake and a resident peacock.

The hotel is surrounded by the Marais Audomarois biosphere reserve, a UNESCO-recognised region of canals and wetlands, and is 10 minutes' drive from St Omer, a historic Flemish town with a Gothic cathedral and plenty of restaurants and bars. The town was founded in the ninth century, and later became the base for the British Royal Flying Corps during World War I. La Coupole, a V2 rocket base in World War II, is 15 minutes away by car. It has a museum, where you can visit the chilly tunnels and learn about the local area during the war, and a planetarium.

Le Vert Mesnil, the hotel's restaurant, is listed in The Michelin Guide. The hotel also has a heated indoor swimming pool (open from 7:30am-10:30pm), a tennis court and a bowling green. You can also hire bikes to explore the local area.

Charm Rooms are "immaculately and individually decorated and furnished in classical French style" (Daily Mirror). Wi-Fi is free.

Staff very helpful & mainly spoke good English. Our room was very comfortable with beautiful view across the lawn. Would have loved a fridge & kettle with tea/coffee facilities. The pool was a delight & we had it to ourselves on both occasions then lay on the loungers in the sunshine watching the baby peacocks. Breakfast was lovely & we had an evening meal in the restaurant which was quite pricey but excellent.

Beautiful buildings and gardens. Friendly, helpful staff. Good choice at breakfast and very tasty; fresh fruit, various bread and pastries, hot egg and bacon, cold meats and cheeses. We paid to upgrade to a luxury room in the Pavilion and it was beautiful. Plenty of room, clean, patio and quiet.

It was extremely comfortable as always. Thankyou for helpfully providing us with a ground floor room.

The table flowers in the restaurant were dead. The egg boiling device was not boiling and eventually impossible to gauge a soft boiled egg. We do not like your over-sexual statues in the garden which is otherwise looking serene. We heard a cuckoo calling!

Lovely setting and easy journey back to Calais ferry port. The grounds were lovel with pleasant seating options outside. For me a couple of peacocks roaming around and cows in the neighbouring field added to the charm.

Dining room had lovely large windows, buffet breakfast had a good variety, sadly for me the evening meal was disappointing. Our Chateau room was comfortable but if I did return I would prefer one with walk in shower instead of over bath with no screen (the one's I saw when checking out did have this). I would have liked a swim but am not confident out of my depth and the pool was just a fraction to deep for me, obviously I appreciate this wouldn't bother most people.
