The lush jungle setting at the all-inclusive Sunset at the Palms gives guests a treehouse experience without having to climb a rope ladder. Set on stilts amid palm trees and thick foliage, each of the airy cottages has high wooden beamed ceilings, pared down Balinese-style decor and modern amenities including free Wi-Fi and multiple showerheads in the bathroom.
Meandering paths connect each of the cottages to the other areas within the resort. Check-in is a peaked roof open-air structure with stone floors where the check-in and the restaurants all intersect. The property prides itself on its eco-conscious design, so don’t expect to find air conditioned restaurants or rooms. Dark wood floors, carved wooden furniture and plantation shutters provide respite from the elements here, so if you’d rather hear the hum of an AC than the chirping of local birds, this may not be for you.
There’s a large freeform pool with a swim-up bar and two restaurants that keep the focus mostly on local fare. The resort is adults-only, so leave the kids and picky eaters behind. Evenings, guests can gather around the pool and listen to live music.
The beach is on the other side of a busy highway, which some past guests on TripAdvisor say can be irksome to cross. But once there, the private, serene setting may make up for it. All non-motorized water sports are free for guests, so you can snorkel, stand-up paddleboard and kayak to your heart’s content.
As a convenient perk, the hotel offers free roundtrip service from Montego Bay airport, which is about a 90-minute drive away through the private Club Mobay service. Arrivals are greeted with a sign held by their private driver and receive expedited customs service.
