Yes, it’s ‘just’ an airport hotel but convenience isn’t to be sniffed at -- and besides, how many pre-holiday stopovers have in-house trapeze artists in the wine bar?
The Radisson Blu Stansted Airport Hotel is just 10 minutes’ walk from the terminal -- via a covered walkway -- with easy access to bus and train stations. Most guests are here because their flight leaves early but if you have time on your hands, you can be in London in just over an hour, or Cambridge within 45 minutes . And for a few hours’ entertainment, check out nearby Stansted Mountfitchet, with its (ruined) castle, replica Norman village and toy museum.
The hotel offers two dining options -- the New York Grill Bar and Filini, an Italian fine-dining restaurant. The highlight, though, has to be the Angels’ Wine Tower Bar, which features a glass tower that holds thousands of bottles of wine. These are retrieved by trapeze artists, who perform acrobatics mid-air. You can get food here, too -- burgers, pizzas, salads and steaks. An extensive buffet breakfast is available, as is a takeaway version if you’re in a hurry. Additional facilities include a pool, gym, steam room, sauna and spa (charges apply for treatments) and an express laundry service.
Standard Rooms have free WiFi, a safe and a mini bar (charges apply). An upgrade to a Business Class room includes a Nespresso machine, a free Super Breakfast Buffet and free in-house movies. Suites are larger with a separate living area.
