Woolley Grange is tucked away in the hamlet of Woolley Green close to the southern edge of the Cotswolds, just two hours by car from London and a 20-minute drive from Bath. The property is within strolling distance of the pretty village of Bradford on Avon and walking routes along the Kennet and Avon Canal.

This impressive manor house dates back to the 17th century, and has 14 acres of grounds. While the façade retains its historic charm, inside you'll find stylish bedrooms with contemporary comforts such as plasma-screen TVs and retro Roberts radios, with oak panelling, beamed ceilings and the odd antique furnishing giving a nod to its heritage. Guest rooms also come complete with thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers, fruit and homemade biscuits. There are several dog-friendly and family-friendly rooms available for an additional fee (request on booking).

Whether you want family dining or fine dining, the restaurant accommodates all tastes with a menu featuring ingredients from the kitchen garden. The hotel is a member of the Luxury Family Hotels stable, so the Ofsted-approved Den serves an extensive children's menu from 5pm, or you can dine together in the child-friendly section of the glass-roofed orangery. Perfect for frazzled parents is the snug drawing room, an ideal spot for after-dinner drinks.

The hotel features a spa with an indoor swimming pool, two treatment rooms, a sauna and a steam room, with an outdoor swimming pool with sunbeds open from May-September. Outside you can explore the Victorian walled garden, the Hen House games room and the child-friendly Good Life Garden.

Other Comments: Should have done a bit of research, but this hotel is a crèche with rooms attached!! We should have taken our grandchildren for protection!! Even the spa was full of kids, and the massage prices outrageous. Our fault for not checking first. Shabby chic doesn't tell the story - it's really in need of serious updating, and although the staff were all friendly and keen to please, there is much better value elsewhere in this area. Disappointed with the breakfast, and £25.50 for a Sirloin steak on the dinner menu was the last straw - sorry will not be going back!

Enjoyed Most: Chefs passion for food which showed itself during breakfast and dinner - excellent food. All the staff went to great lengths to ensure my Gluten, Soya and Dairy intolerances were catered for. Its the first time in years that Ive had a full English breakfast, including black pudding, without suffering any after effects whatsoever. In addition bespoke desserts, which were not on the menu, were offered at dinner. Thoroghly recommend the Hotel and Restaurant.
Other Comments: My Wife and I stayed three days (two nights) and came away feeling very relaxed.

Enjoyed Most: Nice setting
Other Comments: Staff didn't tell us about spa facilities ( they are in separate building) forgot the first course we ordered, it's was only bread and oils but put it on bill. Had to ask for complimentary Prosecco then there was staff confusion and we waited for ages ( lovely apology from waiter). Bill was all wrong in the morning, had to redo it three times ( still difficult to understand as we paid for one glass of Prosecco but they took the amount off the bottle of wine we ordered. They also charged a charity donation without asking ( nobody minds a £1 however, it's like stealing if you are not asked) the receptionist did offer to remove it in a very annoyed voice!

Enjoyed Most: The hotel and grounds are beautiful, perfect for Christmas time with a roaring fire and Christmas tree but I can also imagine it is wonderful in summer with the walled garden and activities. A luxury stay but entirely family friendly is not easy to find, lots of things to keep the little ones entertained and help grown ups relax. Food was great and all the staff super friendly. My perfect 30th Birthday and we will definitely be going back!

Enjoyed Most: Lots!! But being able to take our dog was fab especially with the lovely grounds.
Other Comments: Food was lovely-really high quality. Baby listening service works so well so we could have a quiet, adult meal. Room was big and well equipped. Could have more lounge space in the hotel/space to have a drink. Swimming pool was very modern and clean. Overall though we loved it and wish we could have stayed longer!
