Located in the "honey-hued county" (Harper's Bazaar) of Somerset, the 4-star Rookery Manor, is a converted 16th-century manor, set in lakeside gardens and surrounded by 28 acres of countryside. Ideal for those who want to explore the surrounding area, Rookery Manor is a short drive from many of Somerset's famous towns and cities.

Rookery Manor Hotel is a 15-minute drive from the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, and 20 minutes’ drive from Cheddar, known for its gorge, caves and, of course, cheese. Glastonbury, the "Southwest's undisputed capital of alternative culture" (Lonely Planet), is a 30-minute drive from the hotel, and the medieval cathedral city of Wells is also 30 minutes' drive away.

The country estate has a spa, with a sauna, an outdoor hot tub, a hydrotherapy pool, a well-equipped gym, and tennis courts. The AA-Rosette-awarded Iris Restaurant offers breakfast, morning coffee, light lunches, afternoon tea and fine dining and only uses locally sourced and seasonable ingredients.

There are 25 individually designed bedrooms. Some are in the manor house and some are in converted barns, stables or the annex. Some Deluxe Rooms have balconies and views over the gardens and some Suites have views of the gardens as well as 4-poster beds. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Enjoyed Most: Well appointed rooms and good food
Michael Oct 01, 2015 Cardiff, United Kingdom
Enjoyed Most: Comfortable, modern, spacious room, beautiful gardens. Food good but no porridge or kippers on breakfast menu.
Other Comments: Understaffed, especially in the evening...1 guy, who actually worked hard and did very well, to cover waiting on up to 10 tables, serving behind the bar and, before we got there, helping with the cooking! Access to room was only via a narrow staircase.

Enjoyed Most: The staff were all very friendly, room clean and tidy, food excellent, and spa room brilliant. The gardens are spectacular and a very relaxing ambience.
Other Comments: On Arrival the place is very different to the online picture, but when you go to your room it is all very clean and tidy and a good start for a very relaxing weekend.

Enjoyed Most: The food and the lovely gardens
Other Comments: A designated restaurant would be much more comfortable than using a large impersonal function room with no atmosphere

Alison Feb 11, 2014 Exeter, United Kingdom
Enjoyed Most: The evening meal was superb and well cooked.
Other Comments: The picture of Rookery manor that is used in all their advertising is not what you get. You are housed in a modern detached annex across the car park. The hotel is designed as a wedding venue and for the restaurant you have to brave the elements to go for a meal. They were very short staffed and our breakfast took almost an hour to arrive. The smoked salmon and scrambled egg was fine but the full breakfast was not very good and we think the waiter was actually cooking it?
