The hotel is set in a Grade II-listed Victorian building in the heart of Derby. It's a 50-minute drive from Chatsworth House, which featured as Mr Darcy's residence in the 2005 film "Pride & Prejudice". It is also ideally located for exploring Derby Cathedral, the Peak District, Sherwood Forest and Alton Towers. The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, a hilltop park accessible by cable car with caves and mines to explore, is 30 minutes by car from the hotel.
The hotel is 10 miles from Donington Park, a former Foruma One racing circuit, and less than 20 minutes' drive from Castle Donington -- this picturesque village is a popular spot for picnics by the River Trent. The town is a mix of the old and new, with modern shops mixed with Tudor, Georgian and Regency houses, and the mound where the 13th-century castle stood.
The hotel's service is "skilled, attentive and friendly", says The AA Hotel Guide 2016. The Brasserie restaurant offers fine dining in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Dishes on the current menu include chicken-liver pâté with toasted brioche; chicken breast with mushrooms, a honey and cider sauce, bacon and creamed mash; and Belgian chocolate cheesecake.
There are 102 rooms in total, which fuse Victorian features with contemporary décor. There is free Wi-Fi throughout.
