Why We Love This Hotel

  • This 19th-century manor sits in 19 acres of grounds with a private lake
  • The property is on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to Dumbleton and Winchcombe
  • Nearby towns include Stratford-upon-Avon, Tewkesbury and Evesham
  • We visited the hotel, and loved the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning views

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Dumbleton Hall is a stunning property with beautiful grounds. We very much enjoyed our stay, it was definitely a good value for money. The room was very nice, spacious, decor a bit tired, nice modern bathroom. Both , the meal included in the deal and breakfast, were very tasty, great selection. Book a table for your evening meal if you want to be seated, it gets very busy. The only negative was that couple times after several minutes of waiting we had to go and search for a member of staff to serve us in the bar.

The hotel is a very imposing building with a rich history. The grounds are extensive and a delight to walk around offering a very quiet location. Plenty of room for car parking. The location is very good and central to enable visits Evesham / Broadway / Cheltenham /Stow plus N.T. venues etc

Upon arrival informed that due to double booking we would have to move rooms after the 1st night to another room. Whilst the first room had a walk in shower as arranged the second room had a shower over the bath which because my wife is partially disabled caused problems. In addition we had requested a room with twin beds and found that the first room had a double and a single. The second room had a double and two singles, however in both instances the singles were small. Beds were also uncomfortable being "lumpy" with winter weight duvets. Service at breakfast time was extremely slow incurring a wait of some 30 min after being seated & ordering. Further more on two morning we ( plus 12 or more other guests ) had to wait in a queue for some 20 - 30 min for tables to become available. In my opinion there is a distinct lack of hotel experienced management. At dinner again service between courses was slow, first evening between main course and dessert took 40 min.
