Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a grand manor house at the end of a long driveway that runs through 19 acres of private grounds. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and in the 1930s Poet Laureate John Betjeman was a regular guest. We visited the hotel and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the Cotswolds countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, with its small shops, pubs and tea rooms, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are also nearby. Visit Tewkesbury to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon are all around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Only problem was water not hot enough for bath in the evening and fires would have given a much better ambiance. That apart the staff were very friendly and polite and the food was good ,great value for money.

Lovely large room overlooking the grounds, food excellent, comfortable country hotel.

Unfortunately, we had to report a problem with the water pressure for shower in our room (8 - there was none!) and that we could not turn down the temperature from scalding hot - quite dangerous. Recommend a power shower! Breakfast service was a little haphazard with young inexperienced staff. However, both issues did not spoil our stay and we will return.
