The White Swan Hotel is situated in the market town of Halifax, in West Yorkshire's Brontë country. The hotel is a great base from which to explore the area -- less than a 10-minute drive away is the village of Southowram, where it is believed Emily Brontë was inspired to write "Wuthering Heights".

For a family-friendly day out, head to Eureka!, an interactive educational museum for children. Visit the Victoria Theatre to see ballet, comedy, family shows, pantomimes or concerts. The hotel is also within walking distance of local shops, restaurants and bars.

At the hotel, guests can enjoy a traditional English breakfast cooked to order or there is a wide selection of lighter options on the buffet tables. The on-site Julio's Italian restaurant serves dishes including pizzas, pastas and risottos.

The hotel offers free Wi-Fi throughout, and facilities include a workout room and a cosy bar/lounge.

Other local attractions include Calderdale, which is less than a 10-minute drive from the hotel and is the southernmost of the Yorkshire Dales, covering part of the South Pennines.

Shibden Hall is just over a mile from the hotel and is a Grade II-listed, timber-framed manor house, dating from the 1400s. It is set in 90 acres of the Shibden Valley that forms Shibden Park. In the park there is a café, a miniature railway, a lake, and a pitch-and-putt course, or you can explore the woodlands.

Leeds and the town of Skipton are less than 50 minutes away by car.

Enjoyed Most: Yes, the staff were always eager to help, and the hotel was clean and spotless. It just a shame about the bed.
Other Comments: The bed was so uncomfortable, we returned home a day early. Although the offer to change rooms was made, we declined..

Enjoyed Most: Breakfast and restaurant were fantastic; Staff in the restaurant were particularly excellent - very friendly, polite, helpful and professional. The meals were brilliant value. Lovely original features illustrate the past history, character and elegance of the building.
Other Comments: There is no car parking nearby which is an issue. A few cars can be parked at the hotel at a cost of £7 a night, but that's not really ideal if you are staying more than a couple of days. Other things to be aware of are the live music in bars nearby at weekends which goes on until 10.30 pm. As windows at front are original wooden frames and not double glazed, the noise level could be an irritation. Overall, very good value for money and despite parking issue you are in the town centre with plenty of eating venues and entertainment nearby.
