Overview

The Lambert Hotel is an 18th-century coaching inn in the village of Aston Rowant near the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the borders of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Oxford, The Roald Dahl Museum, Blenheim Palace (Sir Winston Churchill's birthplace) and Waddesdon Manor are all within 40 minutes' drive. Other area highlights include outlet shopping centre Bicester Village, Vale Brewery and the market town of Thame, which is a 10-minute drive from The Lambert Hotel. Bletchley Park, the famed site for British codebreaking during World War II, is less than an hour away.

The hotel features wooden floors, leather armchairs and decorative rugs. It's cosy in the winter thanks to its inviting fireplaces. The restaurant serves British food, and snacks and afternoon tea are available from the bar.

The Double Inn Rooms are in the main building, and all rooms have free Wi-Fi and Freeview.

Travelzoo tip: Rather than driving into Oxford and paying city parking fees, catch the Oxford Tube bus from Lewknor, which is a 15-minute walk from The Lambert Hotel.

Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Food, especially dinner, was excellent. And the buffet breakfasts, with the additional offer of freshly cooked fried or poached eggs, were also very good.
Other Comments
Unfortunately the rooms, although clean, were not serviced well. Shortage of second towels, tea and coffee detritus not cleared or replenished, fiasco with bath and shower water ( boiling and then freezing) so helpfully staff enabled us to use another room's bathroom on another floor. All unfortunate because the rest of our experience at The Lambert was very very enjoyable, and recommendable.

Unfortunately, we were transferred to a neighbouring hotel when we arrived to book in and therefore we are unable to comment on The Lambert Hotel. However, The Oxford Belfry Hotel had lovely staff, food was very good and the accommodation was nice as well.
Other Comments
The Lambert did try to ring us around noon, but our phone was on charge and we therefore did not receive any prior warning of the change of Hotel. We had travelled quite a distance and was quite disappointed to find we had to get back in the car and travel again to a new destination.
