Sprawling across the entire northern third of Captiva Island, South Seas Island resort “feels as lush as its name suggests” (Fodor’s). Two and a half miles of pristine white-sand beaches hug this 330-acre nature preserve, offering a quiet and secluded oasis just an hour’s drive from Fort Myers.

Trolley shuttles ensure guests can easily traverse the whopping acreage, zipping through the property’s ever-green mangrove forests to the numerous on-site dining outlets and amenities. Accommodations vary across the grounds, from marina-side hotel rooms to quaint cottages, villas (condominiums), and spacious private homes.

Before taking part in the resort’s copious on-site activities and amenities, head to the seashore to hunt for unique souvenirs on the property’s superb shell-hunting sands. Resident manatees and dolphins are often spotted splashing away in the nearby waters, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled not only for shells.

Tee up at “one of the most picturesque 9-holers anywhere” (Frommer’s), book a treatment at the 4,000-square-foot state-of-the-art spa or take the kids to the family interactive center to enjoy an abundance of kid-friendly activities. Water sports, tennis courts, bikes and a massive pool complex are also available for guests wishing to stay active throughout their stay.

The resort is very nice. The location is superb. The rooms are as expected. Nice to average for this price range. They could use some color and new bedding to spruce things up. Some areas of the resort look a little tired. But at the time of our departure they were repaving much of the resort. So that will help. Overall we enjoyed every day spent here and would return.

The location of the resort on the northern most tip of the Island is extraordinary. The amenities were very good. We enjoyed the beach, pool, fitness center, and restaurants.

The 1800 building rooms can use an update. The carpet in room 1810 was very dirty and rundown. The shower tub took hours to drain. The building needs painting. The exterior walkways to the hotel rooms were filthy. They were not swept over the six nights that we were there.

The location is beautiful.

We were staying in the Beach Front Villas and in the end of our building there were 8 units. 3 of the units were being renovated and the jackhammering noise of the renovation went on the entire length of our stay. To say it was annoying is a complete understatement. We actually had to avoid our room during the hours between 9am and 7pm. This is completely unacceptable! The staff couldn't have been nicer and offered us a $200 refund but the individual owners of these units should have to notify the resort when renovations are going to take place. I would not even consider returning to South Seas Island Resort because of this issue.

Beautiful natural flora, great beach and pools . Good restaurants in both Captiva and Sanibel

if you have a car and do not avail yourself of the tram system or the other amenities then the resort fee of $20 per person per day seems a bit steep. Also do not like the fact that they more than double the charges on your credit card as a guarantee prior to placing the actual charge for your stay on the card. So for a stay of around $600 they place a hold of $1200 on your card. This seems excessive.

Very nice resort, close to many restaurants and a star bucks , love the no cash policy - very easy and convenient stay. I don't think there is a bad location for your room anywhere on the resort. Many good options

Our actual condo was accommodating, somewhat clean and up to date. Having beach loungers and umbrellas to use on the actual beach was nice.
Other Comments
The room we were assigned looked nothing like the photos on the website & there was no luggage trolley to help with your baggage. I was disappointed that our room was over a mile away from the main pool & beach. It was not within walking distance. There was a small pool near our bldg, however it offered zero shade (not one umbrella), the pool was dirty, the furniture was old, the pool surface was rough on your feet and it was not kid/child friendly. The complex was so spread out that there was nothing within walking distance of our bldg. The website offers a very different picture of the complex. Going on vacation and needing to drive your vehicle everywhere was not enjoyable. The map that we received when we checked in was small, hard to understand and confusing. Our overall experience was fair. We were disappointed in many aspects.
