This 4-star Hotel 1898 is on Barcelona's famous central avenue, La Rambla, close to many of the city's attractions. The hotel is in a restored 19th-century colonial building that was the former palatial residence of the Marquess of Comillas. Said to be the city's only colonial-style hotel, it has many unique historic touches, but also offers all mod cons -- including a heated rooftop pool and sun terrace.
As Barcelona is quite a compact city, the hotel's central location makes it easy to get to many of the top sites on foot. You can get to the La Boquería market, famous for its legendary food stalls in about two minutes. Plaça de Catalunya is also a 4-minute walk from the hotel. La Sagrada Família -- Gaudi's unfinished Gothic cathedral, started in 1882 and due for completion in 2026 -- is further away (3km), but can be reached via the L2 Metro line from Passeig de Gràcia, about 11 minutes' walk from the hotel.
The hotel has a 7th-floor private terrace with a heated swimming pool that's open all year round, and there is also a spa with a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a gym and a steam room in an adjacent building. The spa offers a range of treatments, available for a surcharge. In keeping with its turn-of-the century feel, the hotel shows silent-film classics in its lobby. There's a 1st-floor restaurant that looks out onto La Rambla, as well as a restaurant on the roof terrace that serves tapas and cocktails. There is also a bar in the lobby, the hotel’s own 1898 shop and a business centre, as well as a library offering a selection of books and newspapers.
The hotel has 169 colonial-style rooms, all with free Wi-Fi, a mini bar, LED-screen TV, radio with USB port, climate control, complimentary tea service, a large marble fitted bathtub and shower, robe and slippers, and a pillow menu. Deluxe Rooms have a private 15-square-metre terrace with views of the hotel's courtyard, while Superior Rooms have views out on to the surrounding streets, including La Rambla. The Junior Suites include Nespresso machines and king-size canopy beds, while the Suite Colonial adds a bottle of French champagne, gourmet sweets and complimentary breakfast, as well as a private 60-square-metre terrace with a hot tub.
