If you’re looking for a riverside Cambridge hotel with both river and city views, The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cambridge is, quite literally, the only place to be . From the fine-dining restaurant you can watch punts pass by, then you can step into the street and find yourself in the heart of this historic city.
Just over a mile from Cambridge station, the hotel is practically on the doorstep of Cambridge University’s colleges (the 500-year-old King’s College Chapel is five minutes’ walk away). Wander down to the river or around the city centre, with its boutiques, designer stores and outdoor markets. There’s plenty to see -- the Fitzwilliam Museum, which houses unique collections of art and antiquities from across the world, is a 5-minute walk away.
The hotel’s restaurant, the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, has an al fresco terrace that looks out on landscaped lawns leading down to the river, as well as a contemporary dining room. For those in need of further relaxation, there’s also a health club with an indoor pool, sauna and gym.
Standard rooms come with air conditioning and flat-screen TVs, and you can upgrade to a room with floor-to-ceiling windows and a private balcony overlooking the River Cam. Junior suites offer separate sleeping and living areas, but for a seriously plush stay, book the two-room Penthouse, which has a private roof terrace with outdoor seating and a separate dining area. All rooms have high-speed internet access (charges apply).
