The 5-star Hotel El Jebel is on the east coast of Sicily close to the old town of Taormina, which Lonely Planet describes as “achingly beautiful”. Set in a historic palazzo, the hotel overlooks the Bay of Naxos and is a 15-minute walk from the centre of the town. It also has stunning views of the hills that climb towards Mount Etna.
Taormina is a picturesque town known for its medieval Greek theatre that looks out over the Mediterranean Sea. Wander down its cobbled main street (the Corso Umberto) to see traditional buildings -- complete with crumbling shutters -- alongside designer boutiques. The fortress-like Piazza del Duomo, which has a 13th-century cathedral and Baroque fountain, is worth a visit -- you'll find it at the end of the Corso Umberto. Taormina also has a cable car that travels to some of the seaside resorts along the coast, including Isola Bella.
As well as a scenic terrace overlooking the sea, the hotel has a roof garden with comfortable seating, and a stylish à la carte restaurant with chandelier lighting. There's also a spa with rain showers, a whirlpool, a Jacuzzi and a range of treatments. The hotel offers exclusive access and free transfers to the private Paradise Beach Club, which provides deck chairs, umbrellas, a swimming pool and a snack bar.
The El Jebel is an all-suite hotel -- each one has air conditioning, a Blu-ray player and satellite TV. Designs range from classic to Baroque and oriental, with standout features including roll-top baths, chaises longues and Moroccan mosaic tiles.
