Overview
The Park Plaza Cardiff is a modern family-run hotel in Cardiff's city centre, around the corner from Cardiff Castle and the St David's Centre shops, the National Museum of Wales, which are within a 7-minute walk. The Millennium Stadium is a 13-minute walk from the hotel.
The hotel offers a surprising range of facilities. Midday checkout is available, and there's complimentary access to the Laguna Health & Spa Club, which features a 20-metre, UV-filtered, stainless-steel indoor pool, a spa bath, a gym, a steam room, a relaxation lounge, a spa dining area and a Jacuzzi (open until 10pm on Monday-Friday and 8pm on Saturday and Sunday). Luxury Elemis spa and beauty treatments – including massage, facials, manicure and pedicure -- are also available, and the gym holds pilates, yoga and aerobics classes (extra charges apply).
The hotel's Laguna Kitchen & Bar open-plan restaurant also comes up trumps with an AA Rosette for its "generously portioned" and "deservedly popular"brasserie dishes, which include mains such as slow-cooked pork belly and rack of Welsh lamb. The buffet breakfast (not included in the room rate) is generous and is also served in the restaurant. The bar serves a range of drinks and small plates and salads, as well as classic burgers and club sandwiches, with a child's version of the menus. Afternoon tea is available in the lobby, with a choice of traditional cakes, finger sandwiches and scones, or try the "Gentleman's afternoon tea" version featuring sirloin-stuffed Yorkshire puddings, chorizo Scotch eggs, and mini venison burgers and scones. There is also a terrace for al fresco dining in warm weather.
Rooms are spacious and "beds are giant" says Glamour Magazine. For views of the city, upgrade to an Executive Room or Junior Suite, which also come with a half-bottle of wine, still and sparkling bottled water, and bathrobe and slippers. The front of the hotel faces a number of noisy bars, but triple glazing helps keep noise to a minimum. Rooms to the rear are quieter. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

- "The best part of the Park Plaza Hotel is the location: it's just three blocks from Cardiff Castle, two blocks from the shopping centre, a block from the National Museum and one building over from the New Theatre" – Johnny Jet, Frommers.com
