Overview

The Bridge Hotel & Spa is in the hamlet of Walshford in North Yorkshire. The hotel is said to stand exactly halfway between London and Edinburgh, so it's not surprising that there is a 17th-century coaching inn at the core of the hotel building. Today, the property is five minutes' drive from the A1(M) and is "well-connected" (The AA) for day trips.

The hotel is less than 10 minutes' drive from the market town of Wetherby, home to Wetherby Racecourse, which hosts racedays from October to July. Bramham Park -- a sprawling wooded estate with an 18th-century manor -- is a 15-minute drive away.

You can also drive 15 minutes to Knaresborough and see Mother Shipton's Cave or the ruined 14th-century castle, or venture 30 minutes by car to spend the day at Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey or Lightwater Valley theme park. The nightlife of Leeds, the spa town of Harrogate and historic York -- "the North's most compelling city", according to Rough Guides -- are also around 30 minutes' drive from the hotel. The North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales national parks are 40 minutes' drive away.

The hotel boasts a spa with an outdoor hot tub, two saunas, an ice fountain and a steam room (spa access is £15 per person for three hours and must be pre-booked). The cosy bar is adorned with oak panelling dating back 250 years, and the restaurant serves classic British dishes. Wi-Fi is free.

A used room service tray with left over food was on the floor outside next room when we arrived...... and when we left.

Room was good. Staff helpful with access issues as some mobility issues. Food old fashioned menu and style of service. Spa was quirky with good range of treatments.

Unfortunately the beef carvery was a disaster - tough and not cooked properly. Although one of the first to eat, the displayed vegetables were bland and not overly warm. On a positive note the starter dishes were very good! We ate in the bar the following evening - limited expensive menu although service was good. Staff all pleasant but really must improve the restaurant - carvery and ambience.

When we got to the hotel there was no one at the reception then when someone appeared they said our room was not ready which I get as we where there at 1pm and check in is at 2pm however when someone turned up 30 minutes after us they where checked in with no problem. Also just to add the spa staff was not helpful to and the spa is not included need to book in advance. Also if your going to be in York city centre don’t stay here it’s a 20 min drive and the location is not great

poor service in the bar , waited 20mins for a pint pulling after changing barrel over but offering a Christmas spiced beer as a alternative . the Christmas atmosphere of a skinny little tree in the bar area was not very festive for the 21st dec . not even a log burning on the open fire . I know they have to keep on top decoration but the place stunk of solvent based paint . friendly staff and reception were great. room clean and tidy.

All staff were very pleasant and helpful. They allowed us to charge our electric car overnight. There was a party going on until late which was next to our friends room. We asked if they could move to another room which was quieter. This was done immediately without any fuss . The room was an upgrade too. Breakfast is very good, carvery so-so .

Warm , comfortable hotel. Comfy rooms and beds even though most of the rooms are in the eves (watch your heads). Good , friendly staff. Food is a carvery but good quality and plentiful (5 courses ! ). Soup is always good.
Other Comments
Although the hotel is in a bit of a strange place being just off the A1 and a little noisy, it is a nice venue and quite stylish.
