With its wrought-iron staircase, stone arches, wood-beam ceilings and damask furnishings, this 3-star hotel evokes the magical atmosphere of 19th-century Venice. Located on a slightly quieter side of the San Marco sestiere, it's adjacent to La Fenice Theatre (Venice's famous opera house), yet only a 4-minute stroll from St Mark's Square, its basilica, and the iconic Harry's Bar. The designer boutique-lined Calle Larga XXII Marzo is even closer, just across the Calle Veste bridge near the hotel entrance.
A continental buffet is served on the second floor in the formal breakfast room (meaning rooms directly next door can be noisy in the mornings). The upstairs terrace, overlooking the city's domes and rooftops, is the perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine. Here's where guests will find a 24-hour honesty bar serving hot, cold and alcoholic drinks.
Elegant, ensuite rooms feature traditional finishes such as Venetian or parquet flooring, antique-style wood furniture and classic Italian drapery, while modern amenities include flat-screen TVs with cable channels, free Wi-Fi, minibars and air-conditioning. Some add 4-poster beds. Most rooms have views of the city, but request a canal-facing Superior to watch gondolas glide by. Larger groups (four to six people) will be particularly happy with the Family Room, with its two interconnected rooms, each with a private entrance and bathroom.
The hotel can arrange guided tours of the city, as well as transfers to and from the airport.
