When it opened in 2010, the Thompson Toronto was the first foray out of New York for this Manhattan hotel brand. Several years on, it has more than lived up to the hype, with a rooftop lounge, spa and yoga center, a winter ice rink and plush, modern rooms. The property is in the artistic King West Village, with the CN Tower, harborfront and Rogers Centre (home of the Toronto Blue Jays) all within a 10-minute walk.

Known for its party scene, the exclusive top-floor lounge is the hotel’s main appeal -- it’s all about the “rooftop, rooftop, rooftop," says The New York Times. Only open to guests, residents and a select few, the glass-walled bar serves high-end cocktails and has 360-degree views of the city and CN Tower. When night falls smart evening wear is required, but in warmer months guests can stop by for a swim in the beautiful infinity pool during day-lit hours.

For food, there is Japanese fusion on offer at Wabora Sushi, burgers and live sports at the Thompson Diner and weekend brunch at Colette Grand. Opt for a seat on the outdoor terrace for views over the Victoria Memorial Park. Downstairs, the basement lounge is especially popular during the Toronto International Film Festival (when it attracts a throng of celebrity guests, including Maggie Gyllenhaal and Gerard Butler), and is so exclusive you’ll need to opt for bottle service to snag a seat. There’s also a private screening room and well-equipped gym.

Rooms are bright and spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows, dark hardwood floors and statement furniture -- some also have balconies. Large bathrooms have heated marble floors and powerful rainfall showers. Upgrade to a Thompson Suite for a separate dining room, kitchenette, living room and an infinity bathtub.

Explore Canada’s cultural capital with adventure-filled activities, eye-catching shows and award-winning restaurants from top streetside patios to skyscraper dining rooms.

From the press:
  • "The rooftop pool is a party spot in its own right" -- The New York Times
  • "Though cheerful staff effortlessly attend to guests, the Thompson is first and foremost a nightlife playground" -- Condé Nast Traveler
  • "The luxe rooms are chic yet comfortable; the service attentive, but not cloying; the location a welcome launching point for seeing the groovier parts of the city, but also convenient to the theater district" -- Frommer's

Enjoyed Most: Roof too lounge
Kaji Jul 03, 2016 Whitby, ON, Canada
Enjoyed Most: Every staff member we encountered was exceptional. Our AC was not working properly on an extremely hot day. We called front and response time and reaction were outstanding. We had to be moved to another room and the manager himself came to show us the different room before we moved to ensure we would be happy With it. Indeed we were, a suite with kitchen, dining, and living area. And apologies for the inconvenience. Pretty awesome!

Other Comments: thank you for treating us so well! When you found out it was my husband's birthday, you sent a card, a bottle of champagne, and a voucher for breakfast. It was so thoughtful and personal. Leila at the front desk, especially went out of her way both days to make this a WOW experience

Enjoyed Most: The location was good. When the renovations are complete I am sure the hotel will be pleasant to stay at,
Other Comments: The hotel is undergoing MAJOR renovations. It is very noisy. I could not stay there as the noise carried on after 7pm and I was advised that it would start up again at 8am

Enjoyed Most: The staff are very friendly: from the front desk staff to the room service team (btw, available 24 hours per day) The room was a good size, modern and very comfortable with all the amenities we required. The roof top bar was enjoyable (although pricy), but with an amazing view of the city skyline.
