The Independent praises the Polurrian Bay Hotel for its "breathtaking" surroundings, "cosy" rooms and "supremely comfortable" beds. Set on the Cornish cliffs, close to Land's End and Mount's Bay, the hotel is five minutes' walk from the beach at Polurrian Cove, less than 15 minutes' drive from Lizard Point and an hour from the Eden Project.

The hotel has 12 acres of mature landscaped gardens with sea views. There is a tennis court, a gym, a year-round indoor pool (plus seasonal outdoor pool) and spa treatment rooms with a full range of pampering treatments (supplements apply). There's also an Ofsted-registered crèche (for children aged eight months to eight years), as well as a playground and a family cinema.

The restaurant specialises in locally sourced food. The Vista Lounge offers a more informal dining experience, with child-friendly menus and panoramic views of the coastline. The hotel offers a free baby-listening service (via a baby monitor). Well-behaved dogs are welcome for an extra £15 per night (blankets and feeding bowls are provided).

Bathrooms are complete with fluffy towels and upscale toiletries. Inland Facing Large Double Rooms can sleep up to two adults and two children under 12.

Really lovely place and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The only negative was when it came to sorting out the bill at the end of our stay. The bill is not itemised so it was really difficult to work out what was wha and so whether it was correct etc. We stayed with another family and found that, when ordering, the items for everyone were generally put on one familie's bill which led to a bit of a shock when checking out and settling the bill. It also led to another awkward situation of asking the other family we were with for the difference in our overpayment. A real disappointment at the end of a lovely holiday. This would have easily been avoided if we were asked to sign a bill after each order and if the printout of the bill was itemised.

Very friendly staff. The room was comfortable, clean, light and airy. Our dog was treated as a guest. There is lots to do in the hotel -games room, snug with board games and books, cinema, swimming pool. So if it is raining outside there is plenty to do inside. We went on a walk down to the beach which is absolutely stunning, when we got back we sat in the vista lounge and had a cream tea whilst reading a book. Our dog was welcome in most parts of the hotel so we didn't need to leave her in the room on her own.

Our room 801,was on the ground floor with the car park right outside. With a 10 foot window in the bathroom and only a net curtain it did not feel very private on a winter night....also it was freezing. They need some blinds or shutters.
