Refurbished in 2010, the Hotel Regina Madrid is a traditional property dating back to 1918. This is a great budget option for guests who want to do a lot of sightseeing, it’s a 5-minute walk to Puerta del Sol and the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace and the Museo Nacional del Prado are all within 15 minutes. For trips further afield, the nearest metro stop is literally a minute away.
The busy onsite restaurant serves Spanish classics, such as cured ham and paella, and offers a wide selection of wines -- you can even pay a visit to the cellar to handpick your own bottle. There’s also a bar. Further afield, the neighbourhood has a number of tapas restaurants and flamenco bars to explore.
Rooms are clean and bright, with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and marble bathrooms, plus iPads to borrow (charges apply). Those looking for more space should upgrade to a Superior Room. The best rooms are the attic rooms, all with terraces and great views.
