Set in residential Daytona Beach Shores, The Shores Resort & Spa is “the most luxurious hotel here hands down,” says Frommer's. The quiet seaside community is a 10-minute drive south of Daytona Beach, far enough from Main Street and the Daytona Beach Boardwalk to avoid the crowds. Local attractions include the Ponce Inlet lighthouse and the seafood.

The property’s direct beach access is a real draw, and there’s also an oceanside sundeck with two pools, private beachfront cabanas, a poolside Tiki bar and a full-service spa on site. The fine-dining seafood restaurant Azure provides patio seating overlooking the Atlantic.

The resort also offers fire pits, where guests gather to make s’mores at night. Explore the area with one of the hotel bikes (available for rent) or partake in a yoga class on Saturday morning.

Rooms are large, with pillowtop beds and walk-in Italian marble showers. TVs are equipped with DVD players, and the hotel has a collection of movies available to borrow for free. All guest rooms have views of the ocean or Intracoastal Waterway.

There’s a resort fee of $15 (plus tax) per room, per night, which provides Wi-Fi access, free daily newspapers, fitness room access, local and toll-free calls and access to the Oceans Racquet and Recreation Club.

From the press:
  • The restaurant, Azure, is one of Daytona's nicest, offering stellar seafood with a gourmet and regional twist; patio dining overlooking the ocean is a fine option" -- Frommer’s
  • "With a plush, intimate lobby of dark wood and burbling fountains, this is one of Daytona's most elegant options" -- Lonely Planet
  • "For a break from the sunshine and views, opt for a Hot Bamboo Massage in the hotel’s Indulge Spa --just be sure to book your treatment in advance" -- Travel + Leisure

Th location on the beach is perfect.

Outdated decor, furnishings, dingy surfaces everywhere. The food was horrific!

The overcharged me and charged me more than the amount I paid on travelzoo. For example they charged me for parking and I never got my Drink voucher. Spoke to the manager and he told me it was taken care of and I still got charged when I checked out. I'm disputing it with my CC company

The facility was very nice. Access to the Beach was excellent. The staff from the valet staff, to front desk, to wait staff, to housekeeping staff for excellent...A PLUS.

There was NO POOL as they were in deep repair. Tis was not told to us before so was a major disappointment. The hotel did provide complimentary beach umbrella and chairs if asked. The other issue was the final bill. I was quoted by Travelzoo a price of Total price: $827 Customer will pay in the hotel's local currency: US$625.50 But our bill invoiced to us upon departure and we paid it was $728.56 as there was a $32 Occupancy tax and Resort tax each day. This was an increase, in US dollars, of over $100. I think it is incumbent upon Travelzoo to inform me about these extra charges.

The pool at the resort was drained for non-emergency repairs and the management did not tell us when we checked in. The customer service was far below the standard.

Access to the beach is very easy.
Other Comments
Booking was easy, but when I called a few days before arrival to make a final verbal confirmation, I was repeatedly placed on lengthy holds only to discover that only the front desk (not the separate reservations service) can confirm TravelZoo bookings for this hotel. Additionally, the pool was gross. We were there in late afternoon, and the pool deck had trash on it, trash cans were full, and pool towels were not available for the first hour we were there. It was as though no one staffs the pool all day.

Most of the staff was very well trained and the food in the restaurant was excellent at both dinners.
Other Comments
The operator who answered the morning I arrived in Daytona Shores was less than helpful and the waitress at Sunday morning brunch was rather slow. There was a sensor in the room that shut the A/C down when the sliding door to the balcony was opened, but it looked suspiciously like a camera or listening device. A sign should be put up near it to explain its purpose.
