The hotel is very dark, the decor is off. It didn’t feel clean. The AC in the hotel broke all weekend, so it was sweltering. The furniture is tattered and the bathrooms were dingy. The caulking had mold.

Pros:Staff was super kind and cheerful. Location was wonderful! Midtown, close to several subway locations. Coffee shop right next door. Best waterfall shower ever!! Housekeepers were wonderful coming daily to freshen our room. Con’s: pricier than comparable hotels, very dark interior including the lobby. The room was ok size wise, typical NYC size. The carpet and furniture were black. Maybe just not my style. We had a Travel Zoo deal and did not have to pay the resort fee (which is ridiculous anyway).

Pros : best staff on the planet, location, size of medium and large rooms, views of Empire State Building, windows open, shower pressure, greatest mini bar completely stocked, comfortable bed and heavenly pillows. Cons: lack of hot water, not sound proof, funky oil like smell in the building, wall to wall carpet in the rooms, no coffee maker

The hotel was so dark, for no good reason except to be appealing to young hipsters. It gave off an air of exclusivity, like, "if you can't appreciate our dark and moody vibe, you don't belong here." And I definitely don't belong there. I want a hotel to be comfortable and inviting, not foreboding and rude. Also, our room was behind the elevators, so it was rather oddly shaped. Instead of putting the bed on the wider end of the room, it was crammed into the space between the elevator shaft and the external wall, leaving little to no room (literal inches) to get into and out of the bed on the sides. Meanwhile, on the larger end of the room, there were useless amenities like a full-sized fridge full of expensive drinks, a bar, and a damned guitar.

Staff was great. Service was excellent. There needed to be a little more light ... just a little. I couldn't tell if I was putting on my makeup well or not because lighting was so dim even in the bathroom.
