A converted stately home that overlooks Dorset's Chesil Beach, Moonfleet Manor has stunning scenery and great walks on its doorstep. As a member of the Luxury Family Hotels group, the property unsurprisingly makes a great choice for a family break.

According to The Daily Telegraph, this Georgian manor house has something for everyone, offering "an environment that is great for parents (elegant, comfortable, the option of child-free dinners, a glorious spa) and children (lots to do whatever the weather)".

Facilities include a cinema, three heated indoor swimming pools, a sauna and sumptuous spa treatment rooms. The Mediterranean-style restaurant takes pride in using local suppliers for everything from seafood to ales. For families, there are indoor and outdoor play areas and a crèche, and nearby family attractions including the Bovington Tank Museum and donkey rides on Weymouth Beach.

There are 36 rooms, from double rooms to vast 2-floor suites in the nearby coach house. There's also plenty of space to sprawl with two cosy lounges and a garden terrace.

There's lots to explore right on the doorstep, with the Dorset Coast Path and Chesil Beach -- the longest shingle beach in the world -- providing plenty of choice for walkers. Stroll along the beach to the island of Portland to see the lighthouse and sample some great fish and chips.

If you're looking for animals, the sanctuaries at Abbotsbury Swannery and Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park and Tower are all a short drive away. Fossil hunters can explore the cliffs and coves of the Jurassic Coast, a 45-minute drive away.

The hotel is also undergoing some external refurbishment until 18 March which will include scaffolding around the building.

Enjoyed Most: The lovely cuisine (breakfasts and dinner)
Other Comments: Bedroom rather small and overheated (necessary to have door to balcony open all night). Poor lighting. Comfortable lounges. Very good facilities (swimming pool, games room and tennis courts).

Enjoyed Most: We loved the whole ambience of Moonfleet Manor with its comfortable and spacious lounges - great places to sit and relax. We only had one night there but would have loved to stay longer and enjoy all the activities on offer. The situation of the hotel was so special and we enjoyed wandering around the grounds seeing all the birdlife there. It was so quiet and relaxing.
Other Comments: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we felt very relaxed and happy during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. We hope to return again soon.

Enjoyed Most: The location and facilities.
Other Comments: i would not return to this hotel as i do not agree with dogs being allowed in rooms and also i do enjoy dining with screaming children. There should a separate dining room for families.

Enjoyed Most: Hotel lounge areas could possibly do with a bit of a refurb. However when saying that I do not mean modernise the furnishings, sofa chairs etc are in keeping with the building, maybe a reupholstering job.the Rooms were very good, spotlessly clean and everything needed for stay was provided, toiletries dressing gowns slippers etc. Restaurant was excellent, nicely decorated, clean an bright. Food was excellent and good variety. Breakfast was exceptional and cannot praise the staff enough. Very friendly and were prepared to do anything to help you enjoy your stay.
