Overview

Ghyll Manor House Hotel & Restaurant is a timber-framed manor house built in the 17th century in Rusper, a small village in West Sussex between London and Brighton. It's set in 40 acres of gardens with a private lake, a terrace with a dais and an old amphitheatre. Inside is a blend of vintage and contemporary features, such as original beams alongside modern furniture.

Rusper is a small village in the district of Horsham. There's a village shop, a park, public tennis courts and two pubs. The countryside location is ideal for walking, and Nutbourne Vineyards, Arundel Castle and the National Trust's Wakehurst Place are all within 40 minutes' drive of the hotel. Brighton, with its famous North Laine shopping area, Royal Pavilion and Victorian seafront, is 45 minutes away, and the market town of Chichester is within an hour's drive.

Guests can have drinks and afternoon tea in the conservatory or the Terrace Room, which has a large patio overlooking the gardens. The AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant serves classic dishes with an unfussy modern twist.

There are 29 rooms. Standard and Superior Rooms are in the modern Stable Mews in the grounds. All rooms have free Wi-Fi.

Note: The hotel is eight miles from Gatwick Airport, so there might be some aircraft noise.

The food was a big let down. Too dry and not enough vegetables, also, the menu was very limited with none of the normal "favourites" available trying too hard to be different.

The Hotel and its facilities were very good as usual (we have stayed there several times over the years).

Would have been nice if the heating was put on as it was a very cold day and very cold in the room on arrivel. We also had had to send our restaurant bill back 3 times as we kept getting other people's. Also at breakfast had to ask for milk ,jam, butter and sugar and fruit juice.
