A "gem of a hotel" notes Frommer's, The Normandy Hotel is a quiet, sophisticated place, surrounded by statuesque residential properties on tree-lined Wyoming Avenue. It’s the place to come for excellent service and cozy but stylish rooms, hidden in Kalorama, "one of Washington’s loveliest neighborhoods," according to The Washington Post.

It may feel a bit tucked away, but the hotel is half a block from restaurants on Connecticut Avenue, a 10-minute walk from hip nightclubs and bars in trendy Adams Morgan and 15 minutes on foot from Dupont Circle’s restaurants, shops and metro station. Sites such as the White House and the Smithsonian are easily accessible by metro, but don’t miss local museums like the Phillips Collection art gallery and the Textile Museum, both a 10-minute walk away.

There's no restaurant on site but a full continental breakfast (pastries, fruit and cereal) is served in the pretty conservatory, and there is free tea and coffee provided in the lounge throughout the day. Guests can hunker down by the lobby fireplace in the winter or sun themselves on the terrace in the summer. Don’t miss the evening gatherings (5-6pm), when free wine, cheese and chocolates are served in the lobby.

Standard rooms are beautifully done in Art Deco style, with velvet upholstery, quilted bedspreads and mirror-topped tables. Bathrooms are finished in marble, and some rooms have toile wallpaper and four-poster beds. Upgrade to a Deluxe for French doors overlooking pretty Wyoming Avenue (some with Juliet balconies) and private access to the garden terrace to the front.

Explore all of what the Capital City has to offer with top attractions like award-winning wineries and historic Potomac river cruises to fine-dining experiences just steps from The White House.

From the press:
  • "Despite the size, an innlike atmosphere prevails, and the small rooms are stylish and cozy; some open to the quiet patio" -- Fodor's
  • "It's a strange place for a hotel but a smart one, because it removes guests from the hustle and bustle of downtown and places them in Kalorama, one of Washington’s loveliest neighborhoods" -- The Washington Post

Enjoyed Most: the wine hour-the espresso machines-
Other Comments: the hotel needs lots of TLC- it has great potential but a little raggedy-our room needed lots of work-as well as the front patio area where you enter- everything seemed a little shabby -very nice staff but was glad I brought my travelzoo printout to show what was included because they were unaware-I felt somewhat uncomfortable explaining

Enjoyed Most: Great location. Nice decor.
Other Comments: Breakfast was not well prepared (no coffee; espresso maker kept breaking; ran out of plates). Rooms needed some upkeep (loose, stained carpet at baseboards; decrepit mini fridge).

Enjoyed Most: The total experience was wonderful. The upgrade included delicious cupcakes and wine. The rooms were very eclectically decorated, clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in.
Other Comments: The breakfast was a bit pricey for the choices provided, this dynamic hotel should definitely have a full hot breakfast.
