Florence is "one of Europe’s most civilised long weekend destinations", says The Daily Telegraph, thanks to its famous art and architecture. A stay at the Hotel Cellai Florence puts you in walking distance of Michelangelo's David (at the Galleria dell'Accademia), the Duomo and the San Lorenzo Market.
Rooms are individually decorated with antiques found in Tuscan markets, as well as original paintings and period furniture. Those at the front of the hotel have soundproof windows. Breakfast can be served in the room at no extra charge. Wi-Fi is free. There is a bottle of chianti in all Superior Rooms.
The Library Bar offers a chance to relax with a glass of chianti while perusing the hotel's collection of art books. Every evening, from 5-7pm, the hotel offers free tea, coffee and cake. There's also a roof garden, that looks over the city and the hills.
Breakfast is served from 7:30-10:45am in the Winter Garden room, which used to be a studio for sculptors from the Academy of Fine Arts in the 1800s. The breakfast buffet includes eggs, salami, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, breads and homemade focaccia, herbal teas and various coffees. You'll be a 2-minute walk from San Lorenzo Food Hall and close to artisanal ice-cream and pastry shops.
The hotel's bicycles are free to use for exploring the city, but there is a fee for hiring mountain bikes for use in the hills and countryside.
