Overview

Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is a sprawling chalet-style property 10 minutes from Lake Geneva’s town center. Originally designed as the first Playboy Club Hotel in the U.S. when it opened in 1968, the property takes inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright in its architecture and design.

Rooms are country chic, with leather armchairs and antique-style furniture. Views overlook the lake or golf courses and all rooms have a private balcony or patio. Suites feature a full wet bar including a minifridge, and some also have sofa beds and gas fireplaces. Guests who upgrade to the club level will find a cozy private-access club room with a fireplace, where guests can take advantage of breakfast, snacks, drinks and evening hors d’oeuvres.

The AAA 4-Diamond resort feels like an enormous country club, with two championship golf courses, including the Jack Nicklaus-designed Highlands -- GolfAdvisor calls it a "must play." Grand Geneva features indoor, outdoor and lap pools on site; guests can also access the nearby Timber Ridge sister resort with its 50,000-square-foot indoor water park, heated water slides and a lazy river (passes available to guests for an additional fee). During the winter, ice skating and sledding are offered for free; there are complimentary trolley tours of the resort's expansive display of holiday decorations (all new for 2016), and you can go skiing at the resort’s Mountain Top.

The resort is located just 10 minutes from downtown Lake Geneva with its many boutique shops, restaurants and bars; a fall foliage cruise on the lake is highly recommended during autumn months. Skiiers who want to branch out from the resort's hill will find the Alpine Valley and Wilmot Mountain ski areas both about 20 minutes away.

It was quiet, except for the vacuum cleaner in the hall outside our room at 8am Monday morning.

A lot of little things all add up to a lackluster experience. 1. None of us Packer fans watching the NFC Championship game were amused when the overhead music started playing during the third quarter. It was fully twenty minutes before someone could turn it off. Ditto with the air conditioning in an already cool room. 2.The food was also lackluster, both in the main dining room and the bar. Way overpriced for the skimpy portions. 3. We could not log in to the hotel network, and no one at the hotel could help us; we had to call an offsite service to get assistance. 4. The whirlpool was not working properly on Sunday. Monday was better, but Sunday was still a disappointment. 5. Attention to detail was lacking all over the resort. There were lime deposits around the bathroom sink fixtures; the switch plate in the bathroom was crooked; the tops of the paintings in our room had not been dusted in forever; dirty dishes sat at tables in the restaurant for an hour or more without being bused.

Room was REALLY REALLY COLD, there was a draft from sliding doors and when asked for extra blanket it was just a tad thicker than a sheet. Front desk very nice but not too knowledgeable about things going on.

The resort was very beautiful. Very nice scenery. However, the hotel itself needs updating, especially the rooms.

Our first room had 10 to 15 live bugs crawling on the walls. We requested a new room and we were moved into a second room with several dead bugs on the floor. The 3 room we moved into had stains all over the carpet and we later found out that there were stains on the bed sheets. We had the bed sheets completely change around 1030 pm. We were staying here for our anniversary and we also has our 3 month old baby with us.
