Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is a sprawling chalet-style property 10 minutes from Lake Geneva’s town center. Originally designed as the first Playboy Club Hotel in the U.S. when it opened in 1968, the property takes inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright in its architecture and design.

Rooms are country chic, with leather armchairs and antique-style furniture. Views overlook the lake or golf courses and all rooms have a private balcony or patio. Suites feature a full wet bar including a minifridge, and some also have sofa beds and gas fireplaces. Guests who upgrade to the club level will find a cozy private-access club room with a fireplace, where guests can take advantage of breakfast, snacks, drinks and evening hors d’oeuvres.

The AAA 4-Diamond resort feels like an enormous country club, with two championship golf courses, including the Jack Nicklaus-designed Highlands -- GolfAdvisor calls it a "must play." Grand Geneva features indoor, outdoor and lap pools on site; guests can also access the nearby Timber Ridge sister resort with its 50,000-square-foot indoor water park, heated water slides and a lazy river (passes available to guests for an additional fee). During the winter, ice skating and sledding are offered for free; there are complimentary trolley tours of the resort's expansive display of holiday decorations (all new for 2016), and you can go skiing at the resort’s Mountain Top.

The resort is located just 10 minutes from downtown Lake Geneva with its many boutique shops, restaurants and bars; a fall foliage cruise on the lake is highly recommended during autumn months. Skiiers who want to branch out from the resort's hill will find the Alpine Valley and Wilmot Mountain ski areas both about 20 minutes away.

Enjoyed Most: The scenery
Other Comments: I was charged a "Campus Fee" in addition to other charges and taxes (two room taxes!). This seems to be a case of a hidden cost, tacked on to the charges one expects to pay. I expect that the Grand Geneva Resort is trying to find just about any way they can to increase revenue, given the expense of running a place that big. It's a crappy way to sneak some money from guests, is all I'm saying.

Enjoyed Most: Friendliness of staff, general atmosphere, and didn't need to leave resort if you didn't want to as everything you need is there.
Melissa Oct 13, 2016 Lafayette, CA, United States
Enjoyed Most: The area was nice and the people at the hotel were very nice.
Other Comments: The room was old and farthest from the main lobby. What surprised me the most was no elevator. My sisters and I had to get our luggage up the stairs. I paid about $130 a night to stay there and it was not worth it. Lake Geneva is a nice town and we enjoyed the boat ride on the lake and the shopping but if I went back I certainly wouldn't stay there again.
