Opened in 1926, this hotel was the first skyscraper west of the Mississippi River and was at one time the tallest building in the western United States. In 2015, the hotel was inducted into the Historic Hotels of America organization; it had been recognized by the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Alamo Plaza Historic District.
