Overview

The Montague on the Gardens is a stone’s throw from the best London has to offer -- next door to the British Museum with Oxford Street and the West End within walking distance -- but far enough away from the hordes of tourists found in central London.

Set in pretty Bloomsbury, the property is family-friendly with well-thought-out, quiet rooms. Some are quite small, which is typical for such a historical building, but many have lovely garden views. Bottled mineral water, Internet TVs, free Wi-Fi, DVD and CD players are standard, with a library of films and music from which to choose.

Suites offer more space, evening canapés and king size beds. Children won't get bored with loaner board games, toys and game consoles, and they also get kids’ slippers and bathrobes in the bathroom.

The award-winning (AA-Rosette) Blue Door Bistro restaurant serves upscale classics, such as seared sea trout with crushed new potatoes, prawn stroganoff, and a Wagyu beef burger with truffle and Parmesan chips. After dinner, retire to the Cigar Terrace overlooking the gardens, which is reserved for cigar smokers from 5pm onwards in the winter (10pm during the summer).

The real showstopper, however, is the Garden Grill, serving grilled meat, barbecue dishes and Pimm’s cocktails on the secluded terrace in the summer. In the winter, the space is transformed into a themed ski lodge, serving cheese and chocolate fondue, mulled wine and mugs of hot chocolate.

No Upgrade offered staff didn't seem aware, i naively assumed we would get an upgrade if available ??, I assumed the room was their basic standard having been led to it . No Champagne in room as promised. This was remedied after I pointed it out ....after 10 minutes. Room smaller than I expected. Dirt and grime behind bathroom door inside bathroom at floor and sealant level. Bed however was very comfortable. Scaffolding outside and workmen examining the room windows in morning ! Windows sealed and room very dry with aircon. Staff were extremely polite in morning and breakfast was well delivered.

The staff, each and everyone of them were polite, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I even received a card with my champagne signed by all of the staff, plus a birthday message written in chocolate on a plate, such a lovely gesture

Fabulous hotel which far exceeded my expectations. Breakfast fit for a king, plus little extras such as complimentary hot chocolate and chocolate sweets in the lounge area. My husband was instantly handed an umbrella on his way out as it was starting to rain. Very grand hotel but with a homely feel to it.
