Overview
With prime real estate overlooking Cape Cod's Pleasant Bay in peaceful Harwich, the Wequassett Resort & Golf Club is a regular on Travel + Leisure’s list of the World’s Top 500 hotels and has won high praise from Condé Nast Traveler readers. It’s 10 minutes north of Chatham Main Street’s antique shops and cafes, but there is shuttle service on request, which stops at Chatham, Orleans, Harwich and Brewster. The resort has two pools, one of which is an adults-only lap pool, and four tennis courts. Cape Cod National Golf Club is next door (guests receive exclusive access to the members-only 18-hole course). There’s also direct access to two beaches, where complimentary lounge chairs, towels and umbrellas are waiting, or you can catch a boat to Outer Beach on the protected Cape Cod National Seashore (extra charge applies). On site, a large fitness center offers Zumba and yoga classes, as well as croquet and beach volleyball. Children get free ice cream in the summer.
Of the four on-site restaurants, 28 Atlantic is the hotel’s fine-dining option (formal dress is required in the evenings). It is highly rated by Zagat, and Gayot claims that the menu offers “the best of the Cape.” The Pleasant Bay views are amazing -- dine early to catch the sunset. There’s also a cozy tavern for charcuterie, steaks and mac and cheese, or guests can opt for casual dining at the Outer Bar and Grille, which has an open-air terrace and themed family nights in the summer.
Quaint lodgings are decorated in upscale country style. All are fairly spacious with views of the waterfront or bay. The villas look out into the gardens (the best are on the upper floors), and many have a fold-out sofa bed, while some have outdoor Jacuzzis or a fire pit on the patio. There’s also a two-bedroom and a three-bedroom cottage for larger groups and families.
A resort fee of $16 per room, per night covers Wi-Fi, parking, access to the fitness center and pools, local transportation and local telephone calls.
