The hotel is lovely, with well apportioned rooms, nice lobby. But was under staffed for when we stayed there: the bar area was closed. So we weren’t able to get full value from the resort fee. One issue cropped up the day we checked out. We were traveling with our grandchildren and had two rooms. The battery for key card reader on one of the doors went dead and we were unable to get into the room. We had to go down to the front desk multiple times over an hour to get someone to open up the door. Was told initially it would take about 5 minutes to come up and charge the battery but that didn’t happen. Finally security came and opened the door so we could get showers, pack and check out. A little frustrating and was glad we didn’t have a flight or train to catch right away. We would have missed it.

This is the third time staying at the hotel. There were a few disappointments. The room had a beating lake view. However when entering the room, there was an unpleasant smell -either smoking or a musty like smell. The staff came in & used an ozone cleaning machine while we were out, which they r thought would eliminate the odor. However, upon returning, although the smell was a bit lessened, it was still there, which was very disappointing. I returned home with the smell in my clothing. The other minor thing-was there was only 1 packet of regular coffee and 3 packets of decaf. Both of us would have liked to have our regular morning coffee in the room. Other than that it was a lovely stay. The lobby was very festively decorated/nice ambience.

Came downtown for a Christmas celebration with a friend! Great experience with check-in, they held our bags until the room was ready and held our bags when we checked out also. The Bell staff was awesome also! We enjoyed dinner at the palm restaurant and enjoyed coffee in the morning.

The hotel was beautiful, and the rooms were very clean. We got upgraded views that were spectacular! However, we were there to hang out with each other while we got ready and go to a concert. We were unable to get our 2 rooms next to each other. It is ridiculous to pay for 2 rooms and not even get them on the same floor. Both rooms were in my name, so why would they give me 2 different floors? What if the other room was for someone’s children. You certainly would not want them on another floor.

The rooms were lovely and a nice size. It was a busy weekend, but we heard very little noise in the hallways or coming from the surrounding rooms. The hotel was clean, there was easy access to the Pedway and the beds were very comfortable as well.

The hotel charged my credit card for the first night's stay - including the resort fee - on a Wednesday for a Friday arrival. I know that the deadline for cancelling was 72 hours, but I have never in my many years of travel had a hotel pre-emptively charge before arrival unless it was a prepaid rate. It was the start of a lot of confusion for me about the hotel charges. In addition to this, when we checked in, we were told that we had a $15 credit to spend on room service or at the bar in the hotel. When we checked later to make sure that we had the credit before ordering food, we were told that the credit shows up as an "error" that occurs with Travelzoo reservations and that it shouldn't have been mentioned upon check-in. But since it was mentioned, the clerk we were speaking with said that the hotel would honor it. When we checked back again before we ordered breakfast, we were told there was no record of the credit, just the $10 credit for declining housekeeping. But we were again told that it would be put on the account. Well, at check out, after ordering food, the final front desk clerk indicated he saw it in the account as a miscellaneous credit, but he must have removed it because it is missing from the final receipt. Instead of arguing about it, we decided to leave and cut our losses. Love Travelzoo, but this hotel is a no for us.

The hotel is fantastic and in a great location tucked away at the end of Wacker drive. It's slightly off the path of the bustling Michigan Avenue. The rooms were very nice, spacious and comfortable and the river view was stunning. Upon check in we were warmly greeting and were quickly on our way to our room, even allowing us to check-in about 45 minutes early. The hotel is modern but with a touch of elegance. The Palm Restuarant offers a nice dining option as well. As far as the hotel amenities, everything was sufficient for a relaxing stay. A friend and I stayed for a fun girls weekend downtown and even enjoyed a delicious breakfast in-room while taking in the gorgeous Chicago skyline.

My only gripe about the hotel was having our doorbell ring at 9:30 am by staff making sure we were checking out that day and then again at 11:40 am by cleaning staff. I should have put the do-not-disturb door hanger on my door, but didn't realize I'd be pestered to get out so quickly. While I completely understand that check out was at noon, we did not stay late, and promptly checked out on time. I didn't appreciate the feeling rushed part, to an otherwise lovely stay. However, this one particular gripe makes me hesitant to come back for a weekend stay.

First issue was the hotel thought I had booked for three nights, but it was clearly only two -- that took a bit to resolve -- Second issue was the Standard Lake View room I requested wasn't available, so I was put in an ADA room adjacent the elevators - I quickly complained about the noise associated with the elevators and requested another room and was told I could move to another ADA room, or pay for an upgraded room - not sure why I even had an ADA room to begin with -- So the end result was, I ended up paying a $45 (per night) increase to move to a different room - just not sure if the mix up was on the hotel end or Travelzoo end

Swissotel is in the hub of Chicago loop. Walkability scores 10 for us. The hotel was top notch and all of the staff from front line reception to valet parking was professional and attentive. We were celebrating a special occasion and the staff were more than happy to upgrade to a room on the 39th floor. Amazing view of the waterfront. That was the frosting on the cake .. literally! There was a lovely piece of chocolate mouse cake brought to our room!! That’s service we never expected.
Highly recommend the Swissotel and if we ever return to this beautiful city, we would happily stay again.
