Set on Victoria’s Inner Harbour, the Hotel Grand Pacific was named on Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Hotels list in 2012 and has been recommended by National Geographic Traveler for families visiting Vancouver Island. Free bike rental, balconies in every room, a vast sports club, and stunning views make this property great value.

Mark Restaurant has been described as "one of the city’s finest" by Frommer’s. Try the chilled summer pea bisque, seared Albacore tuna and raspberry rubbed oven-roasted venison. There are also the Pacific Restaurant & Terrace for more casual fare (and dim sum on the weekends), and the Pacific Lounge for evening cocktails and jazz. Don’t miss the afternoon tea, with an Asian twist, and the Sunday Breakfast cocktail (made with bourbon with maple syrup-infused Silk Road tea and basil).

The rooms are spacious and surprisingly quiet (considering the hotel’s location), and all have balconies that are big enough to relax on. Expect views of the city, gardens, harbor or Olympic Mountains from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Children are especially welcome, with gift bags on arrival, Nintendo consoles and board games provided. Upgrade to the Olympic Suite for spectacular views of the mountains, a Jacuzzi tub by the fireplace and a four-poster bed.

On site, the Victoria Athletic Club is an impressive size and has an indoor pool, kids pool, full gym, squash courts and fitness classes. There is also a Thai-themed spa that has a dedicated tea bar. Guests can rent bikes for free for up to four hours, and Beacon Hill Park is nearby, with an ocean-side track that runs for miles. Downtown is a 15-minute walk and the Butchart Gardens and Royal BC Museum are also easily accessible. The Victoria Clipper departs from just across the harbor and is an easy day trip to Seattle.

From the press:
  • "The Mark [is] one of the city's finest and most intimate fine-dining restaurants" -- Frommer's
  • "The city's best health club (with yoga classes, squash courts, and state-of-the-art equipment) and a prime Inner Harbour location appeal to savvy regulars" -- Fodor’s

Enjoyed Most: The location in the harbor
Other Comments: There was confusion about the $10 vouchers. We were given tickets that said $10 worth of continental breakfast in the Café. When we got there the lady said it was good for a cup of coffee and one roll. We went to the manager and explained the situation. He took a while to get it straightened out with his manager but then we were given $10 worth of coupons to use in the other restaurant which we did. Also, when we checked out they charged us $20 a day more than it should've been. After we returned home, Travelzoo contacted the hotel and straighten this out for us right away.

Enjoyed Most: Outstsnding service from all staff members. Hotel rooms are not aging well and are starting to look dowdy. Our suite was okay but a harbour view would have been welcome.
