Overview

"This hotel is a knockout," raves Frommer's about the Auberge Saint-Antoine, a Relais & Chateaux property in Quebec City. This family-owned hotel has been applauded as one of the top hotels in Canada by both Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler for more than five years in a row.

The setting in the UNESCO-recognized district of the city is excellent, right next to the Museum of Civilization, overlooking the Saint Lawrence River. The Place Royale, the boutiques in the Quartier Petit Champlain (the oldest shopping area in North America) and the funicular railway, which runs between Upper and Lower Town, are also nearby.

The hotel dates back to the 18th century but is contemporary inside, with unpretentious, personable staff. The fine-dining restaurant Panache is located in a former maritime warehouse, with exposed beams and wooden floors that echo the rustic charm of the menu. Enjoy seasonal dishes like duck with cabbage and blueberries, or veal with mustard and carrots. Post dinner, be sure to catch the live jazz at the Café-Bar (Thursday-Saturday, 8-11 p.m.), just off the lobby. There's also the 24-hour LeGYM, where you'll find a number of machines and a cute Finnish sauna. There's also a private screening room with movies to borrow.

Standard rooms are cozy, with colorful prints and lots of soft furnishings. Upper categories are all furnished with a sofa and ottoman. Views from many aren't astonishing (the most basic face the internal courtyard overlooking city buildings), but the best have terraces and views of the Saint Lawrence River.

From the press:
  • "A stay here is sure to be memorable" -- Frommer's
  • "The rustic-chic restaurant, Panache, in a barnlike room with hand-hewn beams, stands out for its simple Québécois interpretations of seasonal foods" -- Travel + Leisure
  • "The rooms and historical suites are stacked with antique furniture and personality" -- Lonely Planet

The comfort of the room is remarkable. The attention to detail and anticipation of the guests' needs is all that one hopes for in a home away from home. The location couldn't be better with all the shops and restaurants only steps away.

The staff is incredibly attentive and welcoming. The concierge recommended two local restaurants and we had fabulous meals at both.

The relaxed yet sophisticated amiance, the kind service, the artéfact bar and the comfort of the hotel beds! The heated floor in the bathroom also make it cosy!.

I find unfortunate that the pricing of the hotel stay is rising every year and in sneaky ways. At first it was 169$ a night, then 179$ last year and this year 189 and if on the week-end now it is even higher. How could you balance it out?

Very nice hotel with great staff in a super location close to everything.

Wonderful location with a historic respect for the artifacts recovered during the remodeling process as they are displayed throughout the hotel and rooms. Close location to numerous historic sites in the port and old town, also short walks to anywhere in the City.

The staff at this hotel were incredible, top-notch service from the reception to the concierge to the Valet attendants. This hotel was the best hotel I have ever stayed at, the heated floors in the bathroom and the turn down service made the stay that much more enjoyable! Don't forget the movie theatre as an added perk! Amazing hotel will always stay here when in Quebec!

The little things and attention to detail made our five night stay extremely satisfying. Staying at a hotel of this calibre for the price offered by Travel Zoo was fantastic. As I approach my retirement years I will look for deals like this and travel to a city based on the quality of the hotel I will stay at.
