Overview

Charming, intimate and steps from downtown, the Hotel Chimayo de Santa Fe is steeped in local flavor, drawing inspiration from its tiny namesake town to the north. Bundles of dried Chimayo chiles hang next to colorful hand-woven textiles, and painted retablos and hand-made crosses honor the town's artistic and spiritual traditions.

Alongside an open-air courtyard, guest rooms (which feel more like suites) are filled with Southwest details: locally made pillows and bed runners, hand-carved armoires, rustic light fixtures and an inviting palette of brown, black and cream. Some rooms come with kitchenettes, others boast private or shared balconies, and the best ones have a cozy wood-burning fireplace.

Historic Santa Fe Plaza -- filled with artisan vendors, museums and eateries -- is just a half-block away, and the hotel offers walking tours every Saturday as well as a discount card for 15% off purchases around town.

On-site amenities are limited here -- there is no restaurant, but the Low ‘n Slow auto-themed bar pays homage to the local low-rider car culture and serves up Southwestern-themed cocktails and a few small snacks for nibbling. Guests can catch a complimentary shuttle to one of the hotel’s sister properties for a dip in the pool or access to workout facilities. Wi-Fi is complimentary, and pets are welcome (for a fee).

From the press:
  • “Among the handful of mid-price, full-service hotels within a couple of blocks of the Plaza, this attractive, Territorial-style adobe hotel with a mix of spacious standard rooms and even bigger suites is a terrific option” -- Fodor's
  • “Just a stone’s throw from the historic town plaza, this charming hotel’s 56 rooms all look out onto a central courtyard, and many boast balconies and wood-burning fireplaces for those chilly desert nights” -- Sunset Magazine

The location is great.
Other Comments
We were placed in a handicapped room, which did not have a tub and had no storage around the bathroom sink. There was also a controlled burn happening nearby and the smoke came into the room with all the windows closed. We asked to be moved to another room after the first night. The second room was much better! It seems as though guests with a discounted rate are the ones to get a less than ideal room when all the rooms are booked. If they were not able to move us to a new room, I would not go back.
