Why We Love This Hotel

  • You'll find vibrant art murals and numerous bars and restaurants downtown (Public Eat + Drink and Bright Eyes Brewing earn high marks); explore surrounding nature at Mount Greylock and Spruces Park

Drive there was scenic and the downtown area was nice for walking, browsing and eating.
Other Comments
The room was adequate but bed very uncomfortable, pillows flat and unsupportive (even when adding extra). Furniture functional but old, worn and stained.

Staying at The Porches really enhanced the MASS MoCA experience, because their histories are closely related -- there is a even a section of information panels about The Porches inside the museum. The rooms are charming and the amenities are very nice.

This is not just any hotel - it was lovingly restored from historic row housing into a vastly charming cluster of rooms in beautifully painted and designed buildings. Bathrooms are huge, complete with marble countertop and fluffy bath robes, beds very comfy, lots of pillows and charming decor elements. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, and unusually for a small hotel, smoked salmon with all the trimmings. We returned in the evening and sat in the 'parlor' to look at some of the many beautiful art, photography and history books in the library. My ONLY complaint (or recommendation) is to suggest that rooms on the first floor have the advantage of no staircase, but sound (footsteps, shower running) does travel through the ceiling from above. Next time we'll request a second floor room, and we will definitely return!

The Porches is a lovely "hotel" but I was curious as to why, when the hotel was almost completely empty on a Sunday - Tuesday visit, we were assigned to one of the only rooms that didn't have a balcony. That being said, it is a very pleasant place. The room was fairly large with a comfortable king-size bed. The bathroom was huge and the shower was outstanding! I took advantage of the pool (nice and warm but could have used a clearing of the leaves) and the workout facility (excellent). Having to use keys to get into any of the facilities was a bit disconcerting but I guess safety is their priority and it's hard to argue with that!! The included breakfast was excellent with a wide range of choices and everything very fresh.

I'm curious as to why we were assigned to one of the few rooms that didn't include a porch which, since it rained, would have been a welcome place to sit and read

Breakfast was exceptional as was the overall cleanliness

Location isn’t really the best- not a whole lot to do on cold fall days. I think summer would’ve been a much better experience. An on premise pub would help too
