Hatherley Manor is a 17th-century hotel, rumoured to have been built for the illegitimate son of Oliver Cromwell, in the Gloucestershire countryside.

Set in 37 acres of landscaped grounds, the property has a walled garden and manicured lawns. The Lounge Bar has a wood-burning stove -- perfect for relaxing by after a walk.

Local attractions include Gloucester Cathedral and Gloucester Docks, which are 10 minutes away by car. Cheltenham -- famous for its Regency architecture and arts and music festivals -- and Sudeley Castle are both within a 30-minute drive.

The restaurant serves seasonal ingredients and local produce. Expect dishes like grilled sardines with garlic mayonnaise to start, rib-eye steak with chunky chips and peppercorn sauce for mains, and plum pudding with hot vanilla custard to finish.

The bedrooms have king-size beds, tea- and coffee-making facilities, free Wi-Fi and views across the grounds.

Enjoyed Most: The food! The dinner (locally sourced rib eye steak) was the highlight of our visit and breakfast was cooked to order.
Other Comments: All the staff - receptionist, barman, waiters and waitresses - were very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. At check-in when we asked at reception about local walks, the receptionist apologised as she had no leaflets to hand, but when we'd finished dinner (about 4 hours later) someone found us in the bar and gave us some local information/leaflets about various walks and suggestions of what to do locally.

Enjoyed Most: THe location was great and staff were great.
Other Comments: My wife got very ill with suspected food poisining 2 hours after eating dinner there so that kind iof ruined the rest of the stay. She was okay the next morning. We took it up with the mgmt and they were very helpful but couldn't give us a refund as we booked through your site.
