Hidden just off St Mark’s Square, the 4-star Dona Palace is an intimate Venetian property that dates back to the 14th century. This long history is still apparent in the original windows, marble and woodwork throughout the hotel, reminiscent of the days when it was home to the Duke of Venice.
You’ll be staying in an excellent location on the canal. As well as St Mark’s, the Rialto Bidge, Basilica and Doges Palace are all within a 10-minute walk. Watch the gondola’s go by from the garden terrace or upgrade to a Canal View room to take full advantage of the scenery. If you are travelling by water taxi, the driver will be able to drop you off at the hotel's own private dock.
The rooms are large and lavish with an elegant finish, huge windows, Italian marble in the bathrooms and air conditioning. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Upgrade to the Exclusive Executive Suite for your own private roof terrace with a whirlpool tub for two and views of the Basilica. Breakfast can be served here on request.
For those in the rest of the hotel, breakfast is served in the Lounge Bar, with a good selection of eggs, meat, yoghurt, pastries, cereal and more. A daily afternoon tea is also served here, and the hotel runs a small wine bar across the lane that serves free appetisers with glasses of wine during happy hour. For something more substantial, there are a multitude of excellent restaurants a short walk away. We recommend Il Ridotto near St Mark's Square, which has a 5-course tasting menu that is good value for the quality, and Osteria di Santa Marina near the Rialto for creative Venetian cuisine.
