"The city's coolest and most laid-back design hotel," says leading UK newspaper The Guardian about the Icon Hotel & Lounge. The property has been impressing guests with its ultra-modern interior design and central location since it opened in 2007.

Wenceslas Square and the best of the city's nightlife are just one block away, and the art nouveau Municipal House and Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square (visit on the hour for the theatrics) are both within a 15-minute walk.

Part of a new breed of hotels, this is an intimate property. The 31 rooms are cozy but packed with high-tech extras, including complimentary Wi-Fi, fancy laptop safes with fingerprint activation and DVD players (a DVD library is downstairs).

ROOM, the hotel's tapas restaurant, puts a fresh spin on old Spanish favorites (grilled meat comes hanging from a mini skewer), and the hip lounge bar is popular with local trendsetters. In the morning, there's no chance of missing breakfast, whatever time you emerge -- the buffet is served until 11:30am, or guests can order á la carte American pancakes and omelets all the way until 11pm.

Off the lobby is a small spa offering massages and face masks, and a tiny room is hung with religious paintings that hark back to the building’s past life as a church -- in fact, the property is still owned by the Greek Orthodox Church, which continues to hold its annual conventions here.

From the press:
  • "Staff clothes by Diesel, computers by Apple, beds by Hästens – pretty much everything in this gorgeous boutique hotel has a designer stamp on it" -- Lonely Planet
  • "The real pleasure of the hotel is not so much the fun as its attention to detail" -- Fodor's
  • "Great bargain for amenities like this in the centre of things" -- The Telegraph
