Live like the upper crust of Montreal's past with a stay at the Chateau Versailles, which occupies four mid-century townhouses that once housed the city's elite.

Each guestroom at this hotel is slightly different, but all exude the historical charm that the property is known for, complete with crown moldings. Guests should note that the chateau has four floors -- all stairs and no elevators.

For all guests, basic Wi-Fi and breakfast are free daily. Breakfast is served in the quiet, calming atmosphere of Le Boudoir. In the guestrooms, the provided bath products are by Crabtree and Evelyn.

This hotel sits on Sherbrooke Street and is a short distance from attractions like the Montreal Casino. McGill University and Mont Royal Park are nearby as well.

From the press:

  • "Rooms are traditionally elegant, and complimentary afternoon tea is offered daily" -- Rough Guide

Enjoyed Most: The price of the hotel, the breakfast, our upgraded room after we had problems with our first room, the staff were very accommodating, free museum passes
Other Comments: After we checked in (they let us check in early, which was great), we just dumped our luggage in the room and ran out to the fine arts museum to use our free passes. When we finally arrived back (around 9 pm) and went to our room, we realized that our air conditioning wasn't working and one of the locks on the door wasn't working properly (not the regular door lock, but the security latch lock you use while in the room). We called the front desk and a technician came up within five minutes. When he realized he wouldn't be able to fix the AC he offered to either open our window/bring up a fan or move us rooms. As I was 33 weeks pregnant and it was an extremely hot weekend, we opted for moving rooms. Our second room was amazing (went from a double to a king bed and the room was very large). We definitely appreciated the free upgrade and that the staff were so accommodating.

Enjoyed Most: The beautiful large suite with modern bathroom. My wife and I loved the furnishings and the gas fireplace.
Other Comments: Very helpful friendly staff. Doorman recommended an excellent French Bistro and where to exchange money and purchase wine for the Bistro dining. All within walking distance. Also tickets to the Pompeii exhibit down the street.
